23. Gene Tunney Health Exercises. 1927 Victor 78 record album with numerous photos of Tunney on the front cover of the cardboard album covers. Inside are two 78 records with 12 exercises and talk on exercise and health by Gene Tunney. Also included is a cardboard foldout of Tunney demonstrating exercises numbered 5 thru 12. Good condition. $30
24. Manila folder of Jack Dempsey related materials containing all of the following for $100 for the lot:
Long handwritten three-pages letter to Max Waxman mentioning Dempsey and Kearns and a possible motion picture. Can’t tell who wrote it but they end up asking what Waxman’s suggestions are. Appears it may be from a fellow named Willie Bermsteen.
· April 8, 1954 one-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to attorney requesting confirmation that they handle Dempsey’s legal affairs and asking if they know of Jack Kearns whereabouts.
· April 15, 1954 one-page typewritten letter from attorney Arthur Driscoll to Sidney Barton advising that he’s in receipt of his letter regarding the purchase of rights to the story of Dempsey’s life. He assumes that it would involve Kearns as well and that he will need to get a clearance from him also. He advises that the last address they had for Kearns was in Chicago.
· April 21, 1954 one-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Jack Kearns expressing his interest in setting up and clearing the rights to market and distribute a feature length photoplay based upon his life and that of Dempsey.
· April 30, 1960 newspaper article review of Dempsey’s new autobiography.
· 3-page typewritten November 8, 1954 letter on the letter head of attorney Sidney Barton to Dempsey’s manager and business representative Max Waxman concerning the possible life story of Dempsey and Jack Kearns. (2)
· Short single-page typed letter from attorney Arthur Morse to Sidney Barton requesting a meeting.
· July 12, 1954 single-typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Irving Kupcinet requesting the name of an attorney in Chicago who can discuss and effect appropriate arrangements with Jack Kearns of Chicago for a Dempsey picture.
· July 13, 1954 one-page typewritten letter from Irv Kupcinet to Sidney Barton recommending an attorney in Chicago.
· July 15, 1954 two-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Arthur Driscoll regarding his April 15th letter. He asks for assurance that if they are in obtaining whatever is necessary from Kearns, Dempsey will go along with the venture.
· July 19, 1954 single-page typewritten letter to Sidney Barton signed by attorney Arthur Driscoll advising that Dempsey is still open to offers.
· July 23, 1954 two-typewritten page letter from Sidney Barton to Arthur Morse regarding efforts to put together a deal with both Kearns and Dempsey.
· August 17, 1954 two-page typewritten letter from Arthur Morse to Sidney Barton in which he expresses his longtime interest in promoting the Tex Rickard story. He suggests the possibility of joining forces with various parties to secure the approval of men including Kearns and Dempsey to get their respective projects accomplished.
· Single-page typewritten October 28, 1954 letter from John Beck to Arthur Morse in reference to a proposed Dempsey-Kearns photoplay.(2)
· November 8, 1954 three-page typewritten letter (2 copies) from Sidney Barton to Max Waxman concerning interest in obtaining clearance for production and worldwide distribution of a feature length Jack Dempsey photoplay.
· Single-page typewritten letter dated November 19, 1954 from Sidney Barton to Max Waxman requesting an opportunity to meet and discuss his proposal.
· 11/30/1954 handwritten note “Spoke to Geo.Raft who is surprised that Waxman has not acknowledged my letters… “Placed call to Waxman in N.Y. at hotel room, doesn’t answer, message left for him to call..”
· December 8, 1954 two-page typewritten account of conversation with Max Waxman re: Jack Dempsey regarding possible deal and efforts to put one together.
· December 13, 1954 single-typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to attorney’s requesting a meeting to discuss potential agreements with Kearns and Dempsey.
· 10/29/1954 handwritten page of notes including names of (George) Raft, Max Waxman, Marlon Brando, Estele Taylor, Joe Williams, Dan Parker, Gene Fowler, Kearns, Dempsey, and referencing script approval and various dollar figures.
· November 1, 1954 typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to attorney Arthur Morse regarding Dempsey-Kearns movie.
· November 1, 1954 typewritten letter signed by attorney Morse to Sidney Barton in which he states he can work out an arrangement to obtain the cooperation of Kearns. He references his original idea he entertained concerning the Tex Rickard story.
· One-page handwritten note with references to Arthur Morse, Jack Kearns, Dempsey picture rights.
· Two-page typewritten document title “Motion Picture Association of American, Inc….” that is a title registration report dated February 11, 1955.
· March 1, 1955 telegram from Sidney Barton to Arthur Morse “Await your advice re: Jack Kearns also bet a Million Gates script and agreements regards”
· March 1, 1955 typewritten page from Sidney Barton to attorneys requesting an update concerning the sale of film rights.
· March 3, 1955 telegram from Arthur Morse to Sidney Barton advising that he finally caught up with Kearns and he’s coming to Chicago for a meeting. Say’s Kearns insists on knowing and approving screen treatment and plans for release.
· March 3, 1955 one-typewritten page from attorney to Sidney Barton regarding sale of Jack Dempsey motion picture rights advising that Mr. Driscoll is away from office but should return in a week or so.
· March 7, 1955 three-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Arthur Morse regarding distribution and release plans and difficulties with Jack Kearns. (2)
· March 10, 1955 one-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Dr. Vilem Zwillinger regarding the Dempsey-Kearns film project
· March 24, 1955 two-typewritten pages signed letter from Arthur Morse to Sidney Barton regarding a meeting with Jack Kearns. He states that Kearns is a real crackpot and impossible to pin down. Said Kearns suggested that he and Dempsey would simultaneously sign an option agreement upon acceptance of a screen treatment. He expresses his frustration with the dealings with Kearns. He says that Kearns just can’t see himself in any way subordinate to Dempsey.
· September 8, 1955 single-page typewritten letter from Sidney Barton to Max Waxman mentioning the possibility of Budd Schulberg as he screenplay writer.
