A recent zero-day vulnerability in Chrome (CVE-2025-5419) allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by exploiting out-of-bounds read and write operations in the V8 JavaScript engine. Google has released updates to address this, and users are strongly advised to update to version 137.0.7151.68/69 or later, depending on their operating system.
Elaboration:
Zero-Day Vulnerability:
A zero-day vulnerability is a flaw in software or hardware that is unknown to the vendor and exploited by attackers before a security patch is available.
Exploit Chain:
In this case, the zero-day exploit chain targets Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine, allowing attackers to execute malicious code on the victim's system.
Active Exploitation:
The vulnerability is reportedly being actively exploited, meaning attackers are using it to gain access to systems.
Mitigation:
To protect against this vulnerability, users should update their Chrome browser to the latest version (137.0.7151.68/69 or later) as soon as possible. Enabling automatic updates is also recommended.
