It’s been a minute since we posted on the channels, but hopefully that will change soon. The PC world is kind of boring right now and until there’s real progress, there’s not much to say. Sure there are the next round of X3D chips, but who can afford them or the top end GPUs to really make use of them. So, you can't always trust vendors selling "certified refurbished" products on eBay. When the Corsair Voyager a1600 was first released (two years ago), I knew that I wanted to own one at some point.

But their price point was way out of line: over $3000. That's just way too much for me unless it's work-related and going to be profitable. So when I saw the top-spec model listed on eBay for $900 (less than one-third of the original cost), I decided to roll the dice and see if it was as good as I hoped it would be.

I got it in the other day, and Sue helped me do an unboxing video (stay tuned for that) which we will post on the DRD YouTube channel. Let's just say that things did not go well right out of the gate.

The good news is that it's working great now, but not after a TON of work. The seller has been essentially non-communicative, unfortunately, and Corsair has all but admitted they have abandoned the project. It's a shame because, at the end of the day, it's a really decent computer.

Here's a sample of what we found inside after diagnosing that the stability issues were due to overheating (see photos).

After a repaste and cleaning it's running like it's supposed to and gained 1400 points in Time Spy.

If you are in the market for a basic laptop with good performance and upgrade options, then this may be a great deal for you.

If I wasn't in the midst of a ton of other tests, I'd certainly pick one of these up for the channel. We have an ALL AMD laptop we'll be working with shortly. It's a bit older, but you'll get the basic idea.

Hey there all. The PC market is really strange right now. There are a lot of PCs that can be found for bellow what it would take to build one from scratch. I just found this on NewEgg and have ordered it for the channel. I have a series in mind, given the current climate, comparing prebuilt vs home-built. This is a good "high middle range" starting point, and I've got a lot more to draw from as we go forward. Anyway, please stay tuned as we'll be doing most of these LIVE and can take viewer comments and questions in the midst.

Like so many folks, I jumped at the opportunity to get a handheld Windows-powered gaming device like the Asus ROG Ally. There’s certainly a ton of great engineering that’s gone into creating such a powerful device. I was initially disappointed by so many issues during setup. But once I got through them, I began to really like the potential. But the newness wore off quickly. In the end, it simply wasn’t worth the money for my needs, and I chose to go a different direction. What do you think of my decision? Thank you for watching.
