Important security news for anyone with a website.

Two critical vulnerabilities were just disclosed in PHP, the technology behind most websites on the internet (Wordpress), including the custom sites we build. Both are rated 9.2 out of 10 for severity, attackers can exploit them without any login, and attacks have already started.

The good news: patches were released today, and good hosts are moving fast. Our hosting partner Hostinger has already added extra protections and is rolling out the patched versions, and I have been checking the sites we manage.

If your site runs on PHP, it is worth confirming which version you are on. Anything running PHP 8.1 or older is not getting a fix.

Not sure where your site stands? Send me a message and I will take a look.

We're pretty excited about this one! 🚀

We've been working with the team at Soaring Eagle Truck Campers
on their new website, and it's been awesome watching everything start to come together!

Soaring Eagle is building some incredible truck campers that are getting a lot of attention in the RV industry, and we're excited to play a part in helping showcase what makes their products so special.

Having personally spent time working in the RV industry, this project is especially fun for me. It's always exciting to work with companies that are doing something different and building products you can genuinely get excited about!

The website recently went live, and we're continuing to add content, build out pages, and bring more of their products to life online.

Check out what we've been working on! 👇

AI Overviews now show up on way more brand searches. DemandSphere data shows AI Overviews roughly tripled on searches for brand names in September. That means when someone searches your business name, they may now get an AI summary instead of clicking straight to your site. Your Google Business Profile and website content matter more than ever.

Google Maps knows where your business is. But does it know when you’re the right fit for a customer?

I came across an interesting article from Search Engine Land yesterday about Google’s Ask Maps feature.

It’s something I think more local business owners should be paying attention to.

Google introduced Ask Maps earlier this year, allowing people to ask detailed questions about local businesses using AI.

Think about how people traditionally search.

“Plumber in Goshen.”

“Roofing contractor near me.”

“Best restaurant in Elkhart.”

Now someone can ask a much more specific question.

“Which plumbing companies near Goshen handle emergency repairs on weekends?”

And Google can use information about local businesses to help answer.

Here’s why I think that matters.

Your website might mention that you provide plumbing services.

But does it explain which services you specialize in? What situations you handle? When you’re available? What customers should expect?

Those details could become increasingly important as AI helps people narrow down their options.

And there’s something else worth considering.

Your customer reviews might explain what makes your business different better than your website does.

For businesses here in Michiana, I think this is another good reason to focus on clear service descriptions, accurate Google Business Profiles, and genuinely helpful website content.

Not because there’s some secret trick to getting recommended by AI.

But because the better Google and your customers understand your business, the easier it becomes to determine whether you’re the right fit.

Being close to the customer is important. Being the right business for their needs matters just as much.

I’m curious: Have you tried asking Google Maps or ChatGPT to recommend a business in your industry? What did you find?

Google explains how PDFs can rank in Search and AI Mode! On the October 14 episode of Search Off the Record, Google explained that PDFs can rank in regular Search and show up in AI Mode, but only if the text is selectable. Scanned PDFs that are just images of text will not make the cut.

Got a menu, price list, or brochure on your website as a PDF? Quick check worth doing. Next Level Pixels can make sure your documents are search friendly.

Big drama in social media land. Meta just banned TikTok from running ads on Facebook and Instagram in the US and six other countries. They also blocked ads from regular businesses that link to TikTok. If your ads point people to your TikTok, you will want a new plan.

Another website launch! 🚀 We recently wrapped up a new website for Northwood Family Dentistry in Nappanee!

Not every business needs a large, complicated website. Sometimes, a clean, simple one-page design is exactly what makes the most sense.

For Northwood Family Dentistry, we focused on making it easy for patients to find the information they need, locate the office, and get in touch.

A website doesn't have to be complicated to be effective. It just needs to serve its purpose and provide a great experience for visitors.

Another local business taken to the next level!
