Les Cayes in southern Haiti are seeing an increase in children enrolled in area schools and people seeking healthcare as the number of people fleeing gang violence in Port-au-Prince since Feb. 29, 2024, increased dramatically. Half of the population in Haiti is not getting enough to eat and barely a quarter of the hospitals are operating at normal levels.

And between March and June of this year, the number of internally displaced people shot up 60%, bringing the total number forced out of their homes by armed gangs to 578,000.

Despite the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the consequences of Haiti’s indiscriminate violence, which is now spilling over into communities outside of Port-au-Prince, the country is struggling to attract the world’s help.

On Thursday, the United Nations relaunched a $674 million humanitarian response plan, noting that with less than five months left in the year, it remains severely underfunded.

As of August 5, the plan had raised only 24% of the total.

What's wrong with Haiti, and how did we get here? This is a good explanation. But it does not describe the terrible family losses and the citizens living in fear. The gangs are really evil and take advantage of that fear.

With his fate in the air and the situation in Haiti deteriorating by the day, the world has been left to wonder whether the country will fully de...

Thanks to a generous donation by ARDC, we are developing a HF emergency communication network in Haiti. This is very important because during previous emergencies in Haiti, different areas of the country were completely cut off from any communication or transportation. Radios and equipment and antennas have been purchased and sent to Haiti. We are now waiting for security issues to improve.
