We Are More Accountable
We may do things that we know are wrong and yet somehow think we are special because we are His chosen people. We begin to lose humility and become quite arrogant in the fact that we belong to Him.
But did you know that God repeatedly challenges the fact of us thinking that we are special. Israel believed that because they were the chosen people of God that they were special because of their obedience to God and therefore would avoid judgment. They thought judgment would happen to the world, but the chosen people of God would be spared. However, God tried from the beginning to warn the people against this kind of foolish thinking.
Deuteronomy 8:17–18 says, “17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.”
We can no longer set back and do nothing or say nothing when we know the truth.
We must always remember just how accountable we are if we call ourselves His children.

I was talking to someone the other day that came to me and asked me to help a friend find a church. I said I would love to do that. This person then began to explain to me that this person looking for a church was gay and wanted to find a church for her that would tell her it was ok.

I then said I was sorry, but I couldn’t do that because the Bible plainly says that is a sin and not ok. I also told the person that a true friend would want this person to know the truth about her lifestyle if she was truly seeking God.

This person then said, “I don’t want to argue with you”. However, how can you serve a God that doesn’t accept people for who they are? I replied, “God does accept us for who we are and where we are”. However, we have to come to Him humbly and with repentance in our hearts and follow Him and His teachings.

The person then said, I am a good person. I have never cheated, killed anyone, or anything like that. You can ask anyone and they will tell you that I am a good person. So your telling me that God will not accept me and let me into heaven simply because I choose to party and stuff. I believe there is a God and that should be good enough since I live a good life. I said that’s not enough, you have to accept Him into your life and follow Him. Jesus is the only way.

The person said’ “I hate to disagree with you but my god is better because he accepts us no matter what.” Here is where the problem lies. We live in a world that has become so desensitized to sin that we don’t even see it as sin anymore. People have created gods that conform to their image and desires instead of us conforming to the image of the one true God.

Why is this? Well in my opinion it is because the authority of God has been systematically removed from our society. You see, Satan does not care if we have great morals, and he doesn’t even care if we believe that God exists. What he does care about is the authority of God. If he takes that away from our belief system then he wins.

We need to examine ourselves and our lives to insure that we are submitting to the authority of God. If not I encourage you to do so today!

God Bless…

Romans 6:1 says, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?”

Of course not. But when we do sin, we have yet another opportunity to point to the greatness of God, the depths of his love, and the boundlessness of his grace. We need to repent of our sin for the glory of God!

Sunday Sermon 4/21/24: The Choices We Make

Throughout this life we are given the opportunity to make choices. We either make them in a way that honors God or serves Satan. The truth of the matter is that is the only way choices work. There is no middle ground. This concept is more important today than it has ever been.

We better get it together and recognize the one true King. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We better stand up and be recognized as His children. We better set ourselves apart and make the choices that honor God.

When we insist on ‘telling’ God how to do things or insist on forcing our will upon God… this is REBELLION and God is not going to stand for it and he will bring discipline to His children in rebellion!
When we serve God, our place is NOT to instruct God on how to do things, but our place is to accept God’s instruction and direction and move ahead obediently!
The nation of Israel was stiff-necked and unwilling to submit to God, and because of their sinful hearts and unwillingness to repent and turn back to God… they were going to pay the price!
We will pay the same steep price if we believe we can treat God as One who is at our beckon call OR One who’s will should bend to our will…
God is sovereign and He will prevail!

I was watching a movie the other night, don't recall the name, and one of the actors was saying "The world has gone to hell in a hand-basket." Immorality is at an all time high and manors and common courtesy is at an all time low. The list went on and on.

At first I was setting there saying your so right. I agree. All of this really stuck with me and I got to thinking on it. Then I prayed on it and what came to me is that those are not the things wrong with the world. What is wrong with the world is the fact that Christians are absent in the world. We set in our homes and do nothing to change it. We stay within the 4 walls of the church and do nothing or say nothing. Well that is nothing other than what the man said in the movie.

Why is that? Joshua 1:6 says, "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them."

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

So why do we set back and do nothing but complain about the state of the world?

We better get bold before man and humble before God before it is too late.

Most of you don't know this but I was in the hospital last weekend. I was having some issues with my heart and had to have 2 stints put in. That makes a total of 5 now. Anyway, I just want to thank all of you that were praying for me. Gods hand was in all of this, and everything came out fine.

This ordeal brought to mind some things we find in scripture:
• We are not promised tomorrow – Proverbs 27:1
• Prayer works - Mark 11:24
• Taking care of our bodies – 1 Timothy 4:8

But most important of all – God is in control and He cares for us – 1 Peter 5:6-7

Everything we do has consequences. The sins we commit, the priorities we have, the choices we make, and even the good that we do all have consequences.

God sees what you sow
If your planting seeds of sexual immorality, and your sleeping around – then expect to reap a harvest of sexual disease and unwanted pregnancies.

If your sowing seeds of gossip and discord and hatred, then expect to reap a harvest of conflict in your relationships.

The list could go on forever. God always sees what you sow

Galatians 6:7-8 says, “7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Let our prayer always be that we plant seeds that will grow and produce an abundant harvest for the Kingdom of God.

Let me say this, if you think that sin can covered by rituals, if you think it can be solved by church attendance, or how much you give, or the works that you do, then you are wrong. It can only be covered by the blood of Jesus and accepting Him, by doing His will regardless of the cost, by doing what He commands us to do, and by living a life that brings honor and glory to him. We must trust in the Lord and start off every day saying, “Thy will be done”.

Thanksgiving is not just a holiday, it’s an attitude we can practice every day. Here is the opening quote from the Thanksgiving Proclamation signed by George Washington, President of the United States of America, October 3, 1789:

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
