‼️Attention clients - This is another "scam" you need to be aware of - only this one is coming to your mailbox instead of your Inbox! You're going to want to bookmark or save this one in case it shows up in YOUR mailbox! 😉
📍Scams in the Mail: Is Your Domain Really Expiring?🤔
I’ve recently seen several clients receive a "Domain Name Expiration Notice" in the mail from a company called Domain Name Services (like the one I received today! See image below.)
In short: You can treat this as junk mail.🗑️ This is a deceptive marketing tactic known as "domain slamming." The goal is to trick you into transferring your domain away from your current provider by making this notice look like an official bill.
📍How to Spot the Trap
While the letter looks professional, there are several red flags that reveal its true intent:
➡️The "Switch" Language: Look closely at the second line of the intro: "When you switch today to Domain Name Services..." This confirms they are not your current provider.
➡️The Fine Print: In the middle of the page, it explicitly states: "This notice is not a bill, it is rather an easy means of payment should you decide to switch."
➡️Inflated Pricing: The "renewal" fee listed is often significantly higher than what you are currently paying through a standard registrar.
👉What You Need to Know
🔺Existing Clients: If your domain is hosted with GoDaddy through LT Web Designs, you will receive an official invoice directly from me when your renewal is due.
🔺Other Providers: If you manage your domain through another host of your choice, please check your account directly on their official website rather than responding to mailers.
🤡Don't Be Fooled: Paying this "notice" would initiate a transfer of your domain to a new company, which can cause technical headaches and unnecessary costs.
👍Better Safe Than Sorry
If you receive any suspicious letters or emails regarding your website, domain, or hosting, please do not pay them. Feel free to snap a photo or forward the email to me first. I am always happy to review these for you to ensure your digital assets remain secure and your wallet stays closed to scammers.
