2026 Electronics Recycling Competition Breaks Record for Second-Straight Year!

"NextStep is thrilled with the outstanding amount of e-waste collected for the 2026 Electronics Recycling Competition,” said NextStep Executive Director Jessica Ahrenholtz. “It is so wonderful to educate and inform our future generation about the importance of keeping electronic waste out of our landfills. Thank you to all of the participating schools and for the amazing support from our community."

The top two winners in each student enrollment division will receive:
• A $500 Lane County Waste Management sustainability grant (first place)
• A $250 Lane County Waste Management sustainability grant (second place)
• A NextStep Reuse Store computer gift certificate
• A special recognition award

Last weekend, NextStep Recycling was honored to be part of the University of Oregon Sustainability Summit (April 10–11)—where innovation meets impact and e-waste becomes opportunity.

Executive Director Jessica Ahrenholtz joined a panel and breakout sessions to share how NextStep goes beyond recycling—transforming technology into access for education, job training, and new opportunities.

This work isn’t just about electronics. It’s about creating pathways, building confidence, and turning what was once discarded into something meaningful.

Nextstep was truly honored to be part of such an impactful event—grateful for the connections, the conversations, and the reminder that we are better together.

NextStep Recycling's Executive Director, Jessica Ahrenholtz, was so excited and happy to present $2500 to the Hope Project!

Ken Brown, Executive Director of the Hope Project, was the speaker at Eugene's Chamber of Commerce Greeters networking meeting. Ken was surprised with the 1st donation check of the year!

The Hope Project is a Lane County non-profit dedicated to quick response needs-- large and small, close by and far away. Every year, NextStep supports a local nonprofit with a year-long holiday light drive and the Hope Project is the 2026 recipient.

Bring all of your tangled, working or nonworking holiday lights to NextStep Recycling's Donation Center, located at 245 Jackson Street in Eugene, and support the Hope Project in 2026!
