Company History

founded by Glenn and Betty Smeed in 1946. In 1946, Smeed Sound Service provided rental sound systems for dances and social events. In the 1950s Smeed installed custom Hi-Fi and Intercom systems in custom homes. Installation of Intercom and Paging systems grew to lumber mills, businesses, and retail facillities, and was steady through the 60's and 70's.

In 1976 With the Breakup of the bell system, Smeed installed one of the first privately owned telephone systems in the Eugene to a large law firm.

1980 Glenn and Betty retire and sell their business to their two sons, Glenn Jr. and Paul, both working their way up by participating in all aspects of the company. Glenn and Paul have a firm understanding of Audio, Video, and Telecommunications systems. The name "Smeed Sound Service" was also changed to "Smeed Communication Services" to reflect the broader range of products and services now available from Smeed. Paul & Glenn are proud of their family roots and know the value that a family owned business has to offer to it's customers. Smeed Communication Services is large enough to provide the systems our customers desire while small enough to provide the personal service they deserve. We know many of our client's on a first name basis. Glenn Jr. and Paul are working managers with the desire to provide total communications packages that fully satisfy each customer's needs. Some major installations include:

1967 Smeed installed the Public Address system for Autzen stadium for the University of Oregon.
1976 Smeed installed one of the first privately owned PBX telephone systems in Eugene to a major law firm.
1982 Smeed installed the theatre audio systems in the Hult Center for the performing arts in Eugene
1995 Smeed installed the Sound systems for the Oregon Shakespeare Theatre outdoor pavilion
