One of our goto digital mixing consoles. This mixer has helped us to meet the sound needs for several churches of different size and service type. Not only is this board a great mixer with awesome preamps and built-in effects, but because of the feature set, it has allowed us to use less equipment and racks than would normally be necessary for some situations, in turn taking up less space and saving the customer on the total cost of the job.

If your church or organization is looking to put in new or upgrade your existing sound equipment, contact us and we would be happy to consult with you and see if we can find a way to meet your needs and budget.

New Sound at Cherokee Village First Baptist Church

At the heart of this install is a new X32 digital mixing console to replace an old analog mixer in the sound booth. The X32 is the centerpiece and the beginning of a new era of digital sound mixing at First Baptist Church in Cherokee Village.

X32 Edit software was installed on their existing streaming computer. The software connects the X32 console and the computer to give the streaming engineer and interface to have control over a separate bus mix output created solely for their live stream and recording. This output bus gives the streaming engineer a unique mix, different from the central front of house mix.

One of the main, and much-needed additions to this new sound system was a set of 15" Turbosound Athens series speakers and one 15" Turbosound Athens series Subwoofer hung in the center of the sanctuary in a horizontal array configuration. This central array configuration hung from the ceiling allowed us to preserve the aesthetics of the beautiful woodwork and architecture. This configuration also allowed us to achieve a more even sound level throughout the long narrow space and the addition of the subwoofer added some much-needed bass for the electronic drum set and bass guitar. We also replaced the hotshot monitors in the side overflow seating areas used for side fill sound with new Turbosound iQ8 series speakers.

A new equipment rack in a closet behind the stage houses a Behringer S32 digital snake/stage box that is linked back to the X32 console in the sound booth via the Ultranet audio network. The S32 has 32 inputs and 16 outputs controlled from the central console via one piece of shielded Cat6 network cable. There are two Ultranet D16 switches to distribute audio to an additional eight, on stage P16 personal mixers for musicians and four more individual bus mixes to the central front of house speakers, subwoofer and left/right side fill speakers. An eight-channel rack-mount direct box is used to convert line and instrument level signals from the stage to balanced signals before they enter the S32 and get sent to X32 console. Also in the rack is an existing amp that was reused to provide power to two, existing passive 12" wedge monitors on the stage.

The final piece of this new system was the addition of two hanging choir mics to replace a couple of boom mounted condenser mics. The microphone cables were carefully run on the back side of one of the beams and to hide as much cabling as possible and preserve the aesthetics of the room. The hanging microphones along with five new recessed stage boxes created a less cluttered stage and provided a more balanced and controllable mix for the choir. The existing boom mics were repurposed and mounted in troughs on both sides of the room to pick up the ambient room audio and congregational singing.
