We've asked our staff to choose an item from one of the many online collections of our clients: something that reminds them of a favorite memory or experience, sparks their interest, or simply makes them smile. This time, Jennifer selected two photographs from the collections of the Haverford Township Historical Society and Atwater Kent Collection at Drexel because:

"This year with all the news and events of our nation's 250th anniversary, I've been thinking back to the U.S. Bicentennial. As a six-year-old, I remember visiting Philadelphia's historic sites and museums and attending patriotic events with family. At the time, I was only aware of the joy and excitement. However, looking back at the 1970s, it was a decade that saw war, political and economic problems, and protests against inequality. I picked these two images, because both represent what was happening in July 1976."

You can view both images and other items from their collections at https://philadelphiahistory.catalogaccess.com/home and https://haverford.pastperfectonline.com

We've asked each of our staff to choose a favorite item from one of the many online collections. This artifact was selected from the online collection of the McLeod County History Museum by Jennessa.

Jennessa says, "Some of my favorite things in museum collections are the novelty items created to celebrate different events. This Bicentennial tape dispenser is a perfect example and includes an image of one of my favorite Philadelphia treasures, the Liberty Bell. Since America's 250th celebration is in full swing, I am excited to see what items are created for this year's events!"

We've asked each of our staff to choose a favorite item from one of the many online collections. This artifact was selected from the online collection of the Michigan State Capitol by Jessica because:

"Growing up in Michigan, I visited the State Capitol Building in Lansing on a fourth-grade field trip. I remember I was in awe of the building's architecture and spaces, much more than the functions of the building and people who worked there, which was probably the goal of the trip. After the visit, we had to write thank you notes to the staff who provided the tour, and I remember drawing a detailed picture of the capitol building on mine. I spent so much time on that drawing as the more you look, the more architectural details appear."

We are asking each of our staff to choose a favorite item from one of the many online collections. This photograph was selected from the online collection of the National Building Museum by Sara because:

“Wellsboro is a small borough in North Central Pennsylvania, with a charming downtown where a lot of the original architecture still stands. Many of the original businesses are also still operating, including the 1920s movie theater, a diner from the 1930s, as well as a department store from the 1930s, and a hotel built in 1869. This photograph reminds me of the fond memories I have of walking along Main Street and shows both the theater and hotel. Although this photograph is from 1981, this view is nearly the same today.”

We are asking each of our staff to choose a favorite item from one of the many online collections. Allison found this postcard in the Railroad Museum's online collection.

Allison writes: "I’m deeply accustomed to the promise of snow after a lifetime of Mid-Atlantic winters, but the phrase “perpetual snow” feels much more threatening than dreamy to me. This postcard, however, instantly plastered a huge grin on my face as I imagined this ride. Laughing with my loved ones in a cozy railcar, mugs of coffee and hot cocoa in our hands, while the world moves around us with such an awe-inspiring sight? Pure bliss."

You can learn more about this postcard and other items in the Colorado Railroad Museum's online collection at https://coloradorailroadmuseum.catalogaccess.com/photos/20862.
