We were incredibly distressed today when we saw a social media post from Lebanese Pita Pocket about the hateful phone calls they have been receiving at both of their locations due to them being a Lebanese restaurant and serving Halal food.
Let's be crystal clear about who we are talking about. Lebanese Pita Pocket is a local, small business. These are real people who get up every day, prep food, clean the restaurant, and do so many unacknowledged tasks to show up for their staff and their customers. They are our neighbors. The idea that anybody would pick up a phone to harass them about who they are or what is on their menu makes our stomachs turn.
We are a small, family run business ourselves. My husband, our daughter, and I work side by side every day, right here in Fall River. We know what it takes to build something from nothing, and we know how personal it feels when your business is your family. No one should have to pick up a ringing phone wondering what kind of caller is on the other end of that line.
All that being said - we have an ask of our community.
🥙 Go eat there. Either location. Grab some delicious fresh food and tell them you are glad they are there.
🥙 Leave a kind review or comment on their social media. Let them, and our community, see that good outweighs the bad.
🥙 Share their post and encourage your friends and family to show up for them.
🥙 Don't engage with any hate. Support is more powerful than a fight in the comments.
Hate has no place in Fall River, in Massachusetts, or anywhere. Our little corner of the world is richer because of the businesses, families, and cultures that make it what it is. Lebanese Pita Pocket is part of that and we are proud to stand with them.
