For a fourth consecutive year, WambaTech was recognized in Crain’s Cool Places to Work in Detroit, ranking among the Top 30 for Coolest Small Businesses! We’ve always had stellar benefits, employees who never put an “I” in TEAM, and a CEO who frequently bursts into song. More recently, we made good on staying connected while mostly virtual, and keeping morale centerstage even during a lingering global pandemic. We’re happy, and proud, and apparently cool. Wanna be a Wamba? Check us out. Find email at our site. www.wambatech.com.

March 11, 2020, we said “see ya tomorrow” without knowing most of us wouldn’t see each other again IRL for a year and counting. While we are so grateful to have been spared the worst of this pandemic, man do we all miss each other. And Pizza Fridays, and the cheese drawer, and Wambacations, and Jeff’s stories, and Nat’s singing, and Peepa(!), and all of our many reasons to celebrate/congregate. If this time has taught us anything, though, it’s that our Wamba culture can take a knock. One year later, we are more dedicated, determined, and appreciative than ever – a lean, (not)mean software-making machine. Though, we aren’t sure our lonely – and likely now feral – office Roomba has fared as well. Reintegration may be tough for this one. We hope to mess up those white floors again someday soon. Stay strong, little buddy.

For this installment of WambaWorks, we have new creations from our mad scientist, Jeff Goergen. As things cool off outside, they’re getting hot in the lab. Jeff has most recently been experimenting with free-form circuit sculptures. To complete these works, he first designs and uses a 3D printer to make a bending guide. The bending guide is used to configure thick brass wire into complex shapes before he solders it all into place. For his most recent sculpture, Jeff added green LEDs to fashion a night light. The sculpture here takes inspiration from Animal Crossing where you’ll find Jeff taking time off from IRL creation, filling his pockets with virtual leaves as he tends to his village of digital critters.

We are always proud of our team here, and especially so today. Of all eligible Wambas, we had 100% participation in the 2020 U.S. General Election. Votes were cast. Voices will be heard. Pride is swelling.

Congratulations are in order. WambaTech’s very own Rachel Quinlan is the winner of the 2020 Chesley Award for packaging design! The Chesley Awards – given by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA) – recognize artistic achievements in science fiction and fantasy art. Rachel was honored this year for her packaging design on Olde Fae – A Card Game from Beyond the Veil. Not only did Rachel design the packaging, she created the game itself! Each card within the delicately designed box - for which she uses bronze foil – is its own work of art. See, we aren’t just software nerds here at WambaTech. Congrats Rachel!

Do you have a plan to vote this November 3rd? We do! WambaTech has joined ranks with other conscientious companies that have committed to making Election Day a holiday! And, in typical WambaTech fashion, our Wambas didn’t just pledge to vote this November, they went for the gold! We have several employees signed up to work the polls, including one who will serve as an Election Chairman in Detroit. Thank you, Dustin Kingen! Others are donating their time to getting out the vote and to generating enthusiasm for our democratic process. With fewer than 30 days left until Election Day, it's up to all of us to make sure our voices are heard.

Though his beard was always impressive, since lockdown, it has become so remarkable that he looks like he should be Captain of the High Seas as opposed to WambaTech’s Creative Director. No wonder this endeavor – and our latest WambaWorks – is his consolation of sorts to actually being on the Great Lakes where he grew up. Chris Green spent his childhood fascinated by shipwrecks, but only recently stumbled into creating miniature shipwrecks in a bottle. Following the purchase of a laser cutter, and a few happy accidents later, he was hooked on the extreme detail and discipline of the work. He uses a laser cutter, plywood, decorative sand, and fuels himself with delicious cocktails, to complete these impeccable designs. Chris says he finds satisfaction in the experimentation and continual improvement with each new piece. We hope he takes time to admire his treasures like we know we do. [Captain] hats off!

We always thought of her as our Cookie Queen, but quarantine sent Steph’s baking aspirations into overdrive. A few boring weeks, and we had a proper Cake Boss on our hands. Since March, Steph has delivered so many bakes to people’s porches that she's straight-up lost track. She does, however, remember that this all kicked off with a pear cardamom cake topped with dark chocolate glaze which she prepped for her own birthday. Not one to be greedy, she ended up surprising friends and fellow Wambas alike with such triumphs as: pistachio cake layered with baklava, coconut cake with homemade macarons, chocolate chili cake with neon splatter frosting, a banana Minion cake, chocolate cake with blackberry buttercream and French macaroons … The list seriously goes on, people. Around here, Stephanie Vemula is our Chief of Operations. Out there on our porches, she is everyone’s highly anticipated Sweet-Tooth Fairy. Check her seriously sophisticated confections for this installment of WambaWorks. Don’t worry. We’ll ignore the drool.

We think we might have this virtual thing on lock. At the end of July, WambaTech added the newest of four additional hires since we closed our office doors in March and went to work from home. We are super-pumped to welcome developer Shahid Syed to our lineup!
