I'd like to thank everyone that participated in joining my page and sharing the post. My aim is to be recognized in Fitzgerald/Ben Hill County and the surrounding counties as a pretty reliable resource for computer/electronic repair. As you all know, I announced a giveaway for a 1 terabyte Hard Drive filled with music and movies. My goal over the next two weeks was to reach 500 likes, but that happened a lot quicker than I anticipated. So, I will go ahead and draw a name for said prize. Fear not, this will not be the last giveaway Geeky Clean will have. Winner will be announced in a few minutes.

Here's a handy dandy website for those of you out there needing software, but are strapped a little too tight to go out and spend a huge wad of cash. www.alternativeto.net. All you do is type in a program in the search bar in the top left corner and this website will suggest programs that will serve the same purpose. Hope you enjoy!

AlternativeTo lets you find apps and software for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android Tablets, Web Apps, Online, Windows Tablets and more by recommending alternatives to apps you already know.

If I were to create a contest on this page, what would the general public like to see/have as a prize. Within reason. And please... SERIOUS comments ONLY! Jokes will be deleted.

If you have a new computer or one that is running in decent condition, do yourself a huge favor and create a restore point. A lot of problems can be easily resolved by reverting back to a previous point when the computer was running fairly decent.

I recently spoke with a gentleman who was prompted to call a phone number because his computer was "infected". The message was attached to his browser via popups. He called the number (I called it also and it sounds legitimate AT FIRST, but after 30 seconds or so, the whole thing screams scam) and spoke with a man who then had him download some sort of remote access software. The scammer fished around his computer for a minute and more than likely showed him a bunch of errors in the event viewer/log and convinced my customer that his computer was highly infected. Well, while this guy still had access to the computer and of course my customer didn't know, they began to speak of money. The price was $300 dollars to remove the virus and repair the registry. When my customer said no, the scammer deleted a bunch of DLL files and screwed up this victim's computer to the extreme, but not before deleting all his documents and pictures.

So, unless you know and trust the person on the other line, don't allow anyone to remote access (take control from another location) your computer.

Just know that at any moment of any given day, your computer's hard drive could crash (rendered useless). If you're the type of user that stores important pictures, documents, emails, etc... I highly suggest you get some type of storage device (or two) and BACKUP your data. I recently had a customer come to me practically in tears because her hard drive crashed and she had over 3000 pictures of her baby, vacations, sporting events and recitals she could not access. Luckily, I was able to recover those pictures, but that's not always the case. You can go on Amazon, Ebay and a host of other websites and spend a few extra dollars on an external hard drive or a fairly decent size flash-drive for next to nothing. Protect your investment before it's too late.
