While the focus is on AT&T and its data hack. Please practice these security tips for all of your mobile accounts.

You should reset all your passwords and numerical passcodes regularly and avoid using the same or similar ones across multiple accounts.

To update your AT&T passcode, navigate to myAT&T Profile and sign in. Scroll to My linked accounts | Edit and follow the prompts.

You should also set up two-factor authentication, also called multifactor authentication. After entering your account credentials, you’ll separately receive a one-time code from a text, app or digital device you have with you.

What is a TLD Nameserver?

A TLD nameserver is a server that maintains information for all the domain names that share a common domain extension, such as .com, .net, or whatever comes after the last dot in a URL and it releases the website’s IP address and sends the query to the domain’s nameserver.

What is does the Authoritative Nameserver do?
The authoritative nameserver contains information specific to the domain name it serves (e.g. mscyrigo.com) and it can provide a recursive resolver with the IP address of that server found in the DNS A record, or if the domain has a CNAME record (alias) it will provide the recursive resolver with an alias domain, at which point the recursive resolver will have to perform a whole new DNS lookup to procure a record from an authoritative nameserver (often an A record containing an IP address).

What is a CNAME record?
A "canonical name" (CNAME) record is used in lieu of an A record, when a domain or subdomain is an alias of another domain. All CNAME records must point to a domain, never to an IP address. Imagine a scavenger hunt where each clue points to another clue, and the final clue points to the treasure.

What is DNS and How does it Work?
The Domain Name System (DNS) turns domain names into IP addresses, which browsers use to load internet pages. Every device connected to the internet has its own IP address, which is used by other devices to locate the device.

What is a DNS SERVER?
DNS servers directs people to input normal words into their browsers, such as MSCyRIGO.COM, without having to keep track of the IP address for every website.

What is a Root Namserver?

The DNS Root Namserver is known to every recursive resolver. The root nameserver is designated for the internet's DNS root zone. It answers requests sent to it for records in the root zone. It sends back a list of the authoritative nameservers that go with the correct TLD.

What is an example of a Social Engineering Attack?

ROGUE SECURITY SOFTWARE
This is a type of socially engineered malware that tricks targets into paying for the fake removal of malware. There are two prevalent ways in which rogue security software can be installed on a user's computer:
It is downloaded and installed manually by a user after he or she has been tricked into downloading the fake software or it is unknowingly installed onto a user's computer, such as when a user visits a malicious website designed to automatically download and install illegitimate applications.

What is an example of a Social Engineering Attack?

QUID PRO QUO
This is an attack in which the social engineer pretends to provide something in exchange for the target's information or assistance. For instance, a hacker calls a selection of random numbers within an organization and pretends to be a technical support specialist responding to a ticket. Eventually, the hacker will find someone with a legitimate tech issue whom they will then pretend to help. Through this interaction, the hacker can have the target type in the commands to launch malware or can collect password information.
