A new distro called Ageless Linux has appeared, and it’s not just another Debian-based spin. It’s a direct response to the growing push for operating system level age verification.
As we’ve covered before, laws in places like California and proposals in other regions aim to shift age checks from apps to the OS itself, effectively turning your system into an identity gatekeeper.
Ageless Linux takes the opposite approach. It intentionally avoids any age verification features and positions itself as a statement for privacy, user freedom, and minimal data collection.
The project goes beyond just a distro. It also tracks age verification laws, documents where different platforms stand, and even explores hardware ideas built around the same philosophy.
For many in the open source community, this raises a bigger question. Should an operating system simply run software, or should it verify who you are?
What do you think about OS-level age verification and projects like this? 👀🐧
