Hey computer users! you need a good backup... especially if you are planning on keeping your pictures, videos, music, financial data, docs etc! you can use an excellent FREE program from Veeam called Veeam Endpoint Protection to completely image your system. You'll need a backup drive of course... but they are cheap now!

There has been a disturbing number of incidents where people are being called by supposed representatives of Microsoft, or other Computer hardware/software manufacturers, claiming to have noticed that your computer has been hacked or is infected with a virus. If the person being called doesn't know better, then they are convinced to allow the caller to remote into the computer and do whatever... THIS IS A SCAM! No one will call you from Microsoft, or anywhere else really, and tell you this. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE, UNSOLICITED, to remote into your system. I find that the elderly and the less technically inclined are prey to this type of scam. I'm getting about 7 calls a week on this alone.

While on the SCAM subject, be aware that misspelling a website - typically banks, will land you on a website that paints the screen with ominous warnings of impending doom and screams loudly at you to call the phone number listed immediately. Another bunch of crap. You just need to kill the browser process for this "problem" to go away - DO NOT CALL the number! I'm amazed how many people actually call and pay money to complete strangers to do absolutely nothing!!! Don't fall victim to this.

Save yourself some grief... make sure your regular login user is NOT the local administrator of your system. Add or enable another username as the 'administrator', so that malicious programs wont automagically install themselves without at least prompting you to make a decision. - just another layer to prevent a painful removal process!!!
