Breaking now: Police have 33-year-old Seattle woman, former Amazon software engineer, in custody after she broke into Capital One and revealed over 100 million customer accounts, including 140,000 social security numbers, and 80,000 bank account numbers! All over a mis-configured firewall.

Authorities claim a Seattle software engineer was responsible for the hacking of Capital One and obtained the personal data of over 100 million people in what appears to be one of the biggest breaches of a big bank in history.

We have long see technology far outpace the rules set long ago ~ that is, in the 1990s! Here's what they could have improved on, and had they known how expansive the idea of Inter-connectivity would become, most likely would have!

For most of the 90s, I managed global internet public policies for IBM, worked with a fairly small group of early-stage internet policy wonks and helped create many of the basic rules that still govern the internet today.
