This is the world we now live in. Deepfake AI generated scams. This one offers to double your money if you send Bitcoin to an anonymous bitcoin address. It sounds like Elon but it is not. It is a real speech, but a portion has been replaced with the scam pitch. The website linked in the QR code has already been taken down. This has been running live on YouTube for over 24 hours. We are now at a point in the world where you have to assume anything seen on a screen is fake unless you can prove it to be true.

Here is a 20 minute video showing how the refund computer scam works. Short story is the scammer tells the victim they are owed a refund and has the victim log into their bank account to receive a "refund". The scammer pretends to accidentally refund too much money and then asks the victim to buy gift cards to pay the scammer back. We have had two people in the past several months almost fall for this. In both cases the cashier that they were buying the gift cards from discouraged the victim from going through with it.

A Facebook hack was announced today that could affect as many as 50 million users. Basically a flaw was discovered that would allow the attacker to take control of users accounts. They are saying that you do not need to change your password, but you may be forced to re-login.

Another Scam Alert. They are targeting consumers energy customers. The caller id number is forged and is the real consumers energy number. They instruct you to call another number or your electric will be turned off in 45-60 minutes. I have received 3 reports of this call in the last hour here in Fremont. Remember Consumers Energy by law will always send notification by mail with an official disconnection date if it were true.

Yahoo Mail Users: Getting alot of reports this week that Yahoo email users are getting tech support scam popups while reading email. Likely coming from one of Yahoo's advertisers, not Yahoo itself, but beware.
