Parents often ask me, “When should my child start learning to code?” If you’ve been wondering the same, this article is for you! Let’s explore the key skills your child needs to get started with text-based coding.

🔍 Key Skills Your Child Should Have:

1️⃣ Math Skills
We recommend starting around 4th grade or age 10. While coding itself doesn’t demand advanced math, understanding basic math concepts helps kids tackle sample exercises and real-world problems effectively.

2️⃣ English Reading Skills
Reading comprehension is crucial for two reasons:

To understand coding instructions and follow exercises independently.
To debug code by interpreting error messages from the console.
3️⃣ Typing Skills
Moderate typing skills are a must. Struggling to find the right keys can frustrate kids and detract from their learning experience. Thankfully, online schooling has improved typing proficiency for many kids!

4️⃣ Basic Computer Skills
Kids should be comfortable with basic tasks like navigating file explorers, copy-pasting, downloading/uploading files, managing browser tabs, and using virtual platforms like Zoom. Familiarity with hotkeys is a plus!
