One of the biggest reasons businesses struggle with marketing is that people still think about it in binary terms.

-Creative or analytical.
-Brand or performance.
-Awareness or conversion.

That pressure to be one or the other is a narrative that shows up in marketing and across human behavior, and it has only been amplified over the past five years. Those false choices break down quickly in a market where margins are tight, trust is fragile, and tolerance for guesswork is low.

Creativity and revenue-driven analytics have to operate together as one system, intentionally, and from the beginning.

Here is a great example of why you should not let AI run your marketing and content creation.

Tools like ChatGPT are useful for brainstorming, refining tone, and fixing grammar. But they will confidently try to deceive you, give you false information to reduce user frustration, something the system itself admits.

If you hired a contractor who misled you to avoid an uncomfortable conversation, would you continue to let them make decisions that impact your business?

As the system explains it:
“Confidence plus smoothness is usually acceptable. That pattern fails in edge cases.”

The so-called edge case here was simply checking the answer in a different browser while logged out. That is basic verification, not an unusual scenario. This is not the first time I have run into this problem, only the most recent.

AI is a powerful tool in the toolbox, but you cannot build a house with only a hammer, especially when that hammer confidently claims it can drive a nail and then cannot.

We’re proud to share some exciting news.

Launch HOLLYSPRINGS has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, chosen as one of only three organizations out of 20 applicants across a three-county area.

This investment allows us to deepen our support for Launch HOLLYSPRINGS graduates and expand our benefit to the Holly Springs business community as a whole.

"We've seen a flood of slop in 2025 included absurd videos, off-kilter advertising images, cheesy propaganda, fake news that looks pretty real, j***y AI-written books, “workslop” reports that waste coworkers’ time… and lots of talking cats. People found it annoying, and people ate it up.

The past year has been brutal for businesses; even companies with strong branding and great marketing are struggling to stay afloat or are closing doors.

Uncontrollable forces like inflation, shifting consumer spending, and skyrocketing rents are forcing owners into tough choices most never saw coming.

A few years ago, I talked about an incoming “storm”: exploding population, fierce new competition, and the rise of AI. Now add a punishing economy on top of all that, and it’s no surprise that operating the way you did five years ago simply doesn’t work anymore.

So what can you do right now?

Recommit to what truly sets you apart:
Double down on your unique strengths and differentiators, the reasons customers should choose you over anyone else.

Stop blindly using AI for everything:
AI tools are powerful, but they’re not a strategy. Work with real professionals who can help you clearly define your ideal customer (spoiler: it’s not “everyone”) and build a plan that actually fits your business. Using AI for everything will boost Wall Street and kill Main Street.

Get out and network:
Relationships matter more than ever. Meet people, shake hands, and show up where your customers and peers are.

Get deeply involved in your community:
Be visible, add value, sponsor local events, support causes — people buy from businesses they know, like, and trust.

When you aren't supporting your local economy, there won't be anyone left to use your services or buy your products.

The businesses that survive and thrive won’t be the ones with the flashiest ads or the most AI-generated content. They’ll be the ones who remember they’re serving real people and act like it.
