Here I am working in the office, and the phone rings ... and it is the "Windows Service Center". The supposed technician wanted to tell me that I had a virus and he was there to help me. For only $299 he would clean up my computer.
If you get a similar call, it is a scam. If you think they might be right, and that you have a virus, we can clean your computer for way less then $299. As you can see on our web site, our in person service starts at $120 (for the first 80 minutes), then $30 for each successive 20 minute interval. Often we are finished within that first 80 minutes. If you prefer remote support, we can do that too, that is just $60 per hour.
Bottom line, if someone calls you out of the blue, it is probably a scam. If someone offers to remove your virus for $299, probably you can have the work done for less.
On its face, it was totally unbelievable. After all, when was the last time you recall any tech support pro-actively contacting you to...
