🤔 Considering a Counteroffer: What to Keep in Mind 🤔
A candidate is presented with a counteroffer from their current employer after they received an offer from another company. There is a lot to consider in making such decisions, and we would like to share some insights.

💼 Short-term vs. Long-term: When weighing a counteroffer, it's crucial to consider not just the immediate benefits, like a salary bump or improved perks, but also the long-term implications. Will this address the underlying reasons you were considering leaving in the first place? Is there a valid reason why the offer wasn't made until you were ready to leave?

🌱 Career Growth Opportunities: Beyond compensation, think about the growth opportunities, job satisfaction, and alignment with your career goals. Will accepting a counteroffer hinder or enhance your professional development in the long run? Does the offer come with new responsibilities and title - essentially; does it improve your future earning potential or is it just money?

💬 Communication and Relationships: Open and honest communication is key throughout this process. Be transparent with both your current and prospective employers and consider the impact on your relationships. Good communication can ease the impact on the prospective employer if you do chose two accept the counter and may leave the door open for future opportunities. Bad communication can close the door and reduce your options.

🔍 Company Stability: Evaluate the stability and trajectory of both your current and prospective employers. Sometimes, a counteroffer might provide short-term relief but not address deeper issues within the company. Not all companies are equal!

Ultimately, there's no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to counteroffers. It's a highly personal decision that requires careful consideration of various factors. Remember to prioritize your long-term career goals and make a choice that aligns with your values and aspirations.

Stefanie Gallagher came to Core in 2023 after working 24 years with a large financial institution. After speaking with Eunice Morrison of Core, she made the jump to a large insurance brokerage company with agencies throughout the United States where she is currently a Senior IT Project Manager. She said she is extremely happy with the move with zero regrets!

Attending Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY, Stefanie obtained a degree in Public Health with a minor in Chemistry. Soon after graduating, she moved to Virginia to support her husband who was attending the Virginia State Police Academy. Here, she started out in a call center and thus blossomed the beginning of her management career.

A manager/mentor recognized Stefanie possessed the skills to be successful in a new role. She encouraged and supported her to expand on her existing skills and learn new ones. “Project management in the Operations and IT spaces has allowed me to work with people to deliver amazing results – two of my favorite things.”

Stefanie encourages those that are thinking of making a career change to learn more about the subject matter either by shadowing or taking classes. She urges individuals to take advantage of company resources that are offered to further education.

One piece of advice she offers to new project managers is to know that you are not expected to be a subject matter expert on a broad array of topics, but know who the experts are so you can surround yourself with their knowledge. “It is the perfect role to know a little about a lot and to build an awesome network of people to learn from.” She encourages those looking to make a career change to “take the leap”!

Stefanie and her husband have two children. They experienced a busy spring planning their daughter’s scenic river side wedding. Their son is attending Penn State New Kensington this fall as a college athlete. Being empty nesters, she visions pickleball, baseball cheering for her son, redecorating and travel in her future.

We at Core, thank Stefanie’s husband for his service and them both for the move to Virginia. Stefanie has been a valued asset to the Core team. All the best for the future!
