Ask the officials pushing NYC Intro 518, and you'd think nobody wants to be an independent contractor.

Ask the drivers, and you get a very different answer.

Pew Research and multiple industry surveys have found that a large majority of gig and delivery workers — as high as 80–84% in some surveys — prefer to stay independent. They value setting their own hours, working across multiple platforms, and building a business on their own terms.

Intro 518 would take that choice off the table. Not just for the workers asking for change — for the majority who weren't.

If someone is willing to work as an independent contractor, and a business is willing to pay them as one, that's a decision both sides should get to make. Not City Hall.

After the Supreme Court's Montgomery decision, brokers can be liable for hiring unsafe drivers. It has to be shown that you continued to monitor compliance.

The SCI team had a great few days in St. Louis at the NHDA Annual Forum!

The keynote speakers brought a great mix of insight, perspective, and energy to this year’s forum. From Steve Lerch’s discussion on the growing role of AI and how businesses can put it to use, to Dr. Marianne Wanamaker’s outlook on the labor market and areas of potential growth, and Donnie Campbell’s coaching on building stronger teams and believing in their potential, there was plenty to take away from each session.

The panel discussions were equally informative, bringing together a range of perspectives and experiences from across the industry.

Thank you to NHDA, the speakers, panelists, and everyone who made the forum such a great experience. We enjoyed our time in St. Louis and look forward to seeing what next year brings!
