Meet Semaj Gladden, our first Employee Spotlight on one of the most front-and-center departments you’ll see in the store: Security. We take security seriously at Abt when it comes to our store and our customers. However, Security is also about service, and Semaj is the perfect example. Whether you’re looking for a product or need help carrying something to your car, people like Semaj embody the Abt motto, “The answer is always yes to any reasonable request.”
Semaj has been a team member at Abt for eight years, working several positions along the way. “I started in the second shift warehouse, I’ve worked Security twice, and I’ve even been on Trucks.” His warehouse experience has become especially valuable in his current role, where he helps customers at Merchandise Pickup and assists with inventory issues.
“My managers would like to call me a Lead, and that involves a lot of helping customers.” When products are difficult to locate, Semaj uses his warehouse knowledge to track them down or help find the best solution when an item can’t be found. He also understands that waiting for an order can be frustrating, especially in a warehouse as large as Abt. His goal is simple: turn that frustration around and make sure customers leave happy.
Outside his everyday responsibilities, Semaj has also helped organize Abt’s employee 3-Point Shootout for Breast Cancer. The cause is personal; his grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, and after struggling to get participants his first year, Semaj helped grow the event to more than 45 shooters the following year.
Semaj has built more than a career at Abt; he’s built a family. He met his girlfriend here five years ago, and together they now have a two-year-old daughter.
From loading trucks at night to helping customers during the day, Semaj has spent eight years giving back to Abt. The next time you see him on the floor, know that he’s working double-duty, keeping Abt safe and our customers happy.
