🟦 What does “square” mean in trafficking slang?

A “square” is someone outside of “the life”, a civilian or outsider who doesn’t know or participate in the subculture.

🚨 Trafficking has its own terminology, and understanding that language can help us better recognize the dynamics happening beneath the surface. 👀🧠

Are you a truth teller? 👇

Three signs that hit different when you’ve lived them:

1️⃣ You make people uncomfortable without even trying. One honest question and the room goes quiet. You say the obvious thing everyone’s already thinking, and somehow you’re the problem.

2️⃣ You’ve lost relationships just for being honest. Not rude. Not cruel. Just honest. People say they want the truth — until it threatens their identity, their excuses, their habits. Then they protect the lie, and you pay the price for saying it out loud.

3️⃣ You see things coming — years before anyone else does. The pattern. The manipulation. The instability. You know where it’s headed long before the outcome ever lands.

The hardest part isn’t seeing it. It’s watching people ignore the warning... and then watching it happen anyway.

Traffickers don't just control victims individually. They engineer relationships between them.

"Wife-in-law" is what victims under the same trafficker are sometimes made to call each other ‚ language borrowed from marriage to describe a relationship that's forced, ranked, and often competitive by design.

If you hear this term, it's a signal of something organized, not an isolated situation, but a group under one person's control.

🚨 The age of entry into human trafficking is getting younger.

Across the country, reports and investigations continue to show that children are being targeted at younger and younger ages, with many experts warning that the average age of entry is inching closer to 10–11 years old.

That means we can’t afford to wait until middle school to start the conversation.

💬 We need to be talking to our children as early as 7–8 years old about online safety, manipulation, healthy relationships, secrets, and what to do if someone makes them uncomfortable.

Traffickers don’t wait until kids are older. They look for vulnerability, curiosity, and access. With social media, gaming platforms, and messaging apps, they can begin grooming children long before most parents think it’s possible.

The best protection isn’t fear… it’s communication. ❤️

🚨 “In pocket” is a term used to describe a trafficking victim who is fully compliant with their trafficker’s rules.

They may appear calm, cooperative, or like they’re choosing to stay, but behind that compliance can be fear, manipulation, threats, and psychological control. 🧠⛓️

👀 Trafficking doesn’t always look like force. Understanding the terminology helps us understand what may really be happening behind the scenes. 💙
