AI or AY AY AY... 🤦‍♀️💻

Our manager recently had a great idea: use AI to generate a quick mailing list of local West Michigan businesses to send out some new marketing postcards.

On screen, the spreadsheet looked flawless. Tool and die shops, hair salons, and medical offices spanning Grandville, Ada, Hudsonville, and Wyoming. She printed the labels, patted herself on the back for saving two hours of manual research, and sent them off.

Then came the "AY AY AY" moment. 🛑

Almost all of them came back "Return to Sender." When she manually looked them up, she found something mind-boggling: Many of these companies didn't even exist. AI hadn't just mangled a zip code; it confidently fabricated entirely fake businesses out of thin air.
