However, our first concern is making our customers happy - and a few easy steps that can stop big problems down the line! This post will be one in a series of basic electronic care - today we will focus on cleanliness.
One of the biggest dangers to computers is liquid damage - one spilled drink, one answered call in the rain, and your device may be damaged beyond repair. With some simple precautions, you can prevent water damage tragedy:
Keep drinks far away from electronics if you insist on drinking near computers/phones
Wait until you’re inside or sheltered before using phones
Leave your phone somewhere safe if you’re going somewhere wet (swimming pools, beaches, amusement parks)
Another point is keeping your computer clean. Everything gets dirty eventually, but trying too hard to keep something clean can be more harmful if you’re not careful.
NEVER use petroleum products (naptha, gasoline, Goof-Off, and so on), solvents (acetone, nail polish remover, Windex, other kitchen/bathroom cleaning supplies), or other harsh chemicals. These can melt the plastic or coatings on your devices permanently.
We recommend wetting a rag with clean water (no spray-bottles) and wiping down surfaces. For dirtier devices, wet a rag with 70%+ isopropyl/ethyl alcohol and wipe down.
Avoid using devices with dirty hands (immediately after work, eating, or so on). The easiest mess to clean up is one that never existed!
Finally, some general tips to keep your gadgets running well -
Avoid smoking near electronics - the smoke residue can settle and corrode internal components.
Keep the air vents of devices clear of dust (and blankets!) - some devices need to breathe to release heat, and suffocating them can take years off their lifespans.
Avoid putting devices where they can get knocked over or buried - you might know where they are, but the next person might accidentally bump or crush a misplaced phone.
Electronics that are taken care of serve you better than those that are neglected!
