Quick question: when did you last actually restore from your backup? 🌲🛡️

Not "did the backup run" — did you pull a file (or a whole system) back and confirm it works? For most small businesses, the honest answer is "never," and that's exactly where disasters happen.

A 2026 Veeam study found most SMB backups look fine on paper but fail the one test that matters — a real recovery. Attackers have caught up. Adversary-in-the-middle attacks jumped 146% in the past year, and here's the stat that should stop you cold: 84% of the accounts that got hacked HAD multi-factor authentication turned on.

The old six-digit codes and "tap to approve" prompts can now be intercepted or push-bombed until someone gives in. Microsoft even documented an attack where one phone call to a help desk turned into a full Microsoft 365 and Azure takeover in about the time it takes to make coffee. ☕

Today’s HarrisFCS cyber brief highlights exploitation of FortiClient EMS and the broader risk of centralized endpoint-management tools. When attackers abuse management workflows, scripts, or update mechanisms, one compromised console can affect many endpoints at once.

For tax practices, healthcare offices, and other small professional firms, this is a reminder to treat endpoint management, RMM, EDR, and security consoles as Tier-0 assets. Confirm patch status, review admin access, monitor policy and script changes, enforce MFA, and keep these systems out of direct internet exposure whenever possible.
