Government website accessibility deadlines are approaching.

State and local government websites must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards by:

• April 26, 2027, for entities serving 50,000 or more people
• April 26, 2028, for smaller communities and all special districts

For most Wisconsin villages, towns, fire districts, library districts, sanitary districts, and water districts, the 2028 deadline applies.

Now is the time to begin budgeting for website audits, accessibility improvements, PDF remediation, staff training, and ongoing compliance.
