Peter Moore, a visionary designer, created the iconic Jumpman logo that defines the Jordan Brand. Born in 1943, Moore was a key figure at Nike in the 1980s, serving as creative director. In 1984, he crafted the Jumpman by tracing a photo of Michael Jordan dunking, capturing his dynamic athleticism. The logo debuted on the Air Jordan 1 tongue, launching a cultural phenomenon. Moore’s work extended beyond Nike; he designed Adidas’s three-stripe logo and led their creative direction after leaving Nike in 1987. His minimalist yet bold approach shaped sneaker culture, blending sport and style. The Jumpman, born from his pen, became a global symbol of excellence, appearing on sneakers, apparel, and more. Moore’s influence endures in every Air Jordan release, from the 1985 originals to 2025’s retros. His legacy proves a single image can redefine a brand.

In 1957, Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar founded their New York design firm, now Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, pioneering idea-driven graphic design with timeless trademarks for global icons like NBC's peacock and National Geographic's yellow frame. Their breakthrough corporate identity came in 1961 for the newly merged Chase Manhattan Bank, the world's second-largest bank at the time.

Commissioned by David Rockefeller, the duo crafted an abstract blue octagon: four geometric wedges rotating around a central square, evoking a secure bank vault or ancient Chinese coin symbols of trust and protection. Paired with a custom sans-serif typeface, it unified the bank's sprawling operations amid New York's Midtown boom.

The presentation was tense; executives initially rejected it as too radical, far from traditional eagles or shields. Yet, within months, skeptics embraced it, sporting logo ties and cufflinks. Over 60 years later, the design endures through mergers into JPMorgan Chase, proving abstract symbols can outlast eras. Chermayeff and Geismar's lesson: A logo must be memorable, barbed to stick, yet attractive and appropriate redefining branding forever.
