Every other product sold has a county of origin, why not our meat?

Marjorie Taylor Greene responded on X to Trump’s announcement that, for the next "90 days, the United States will allow up to 300,000 metric tons of product for ground beef to be imported with no out of quota tariff."

Greene responded:

"If Trump really wanted to lower beef prices he would support Massie’s PRIME Act which allows individual states to permit local custom slaughterhouses to sell individual cuts of meat directly to consumers, restaurants, and grocery stores within that same state. But instead the Big Four major meat processors in America control over 85% of the market and consequently the cost of processing meat is high. But with Massie’s PRIME Act, small processors would be allowed to compete and would drive down costs. It would also help smaller meat producers to sell their beef to local markets.

And we need Country of Origin labeling for foreign imported and foreign processed meats. Americans deserve to know where the meat they are buying to feed themselves and their families is coming from, and we have the right to reject it based on its country of origin.

Both of these I cosponsored and are Republican sponsored bills, why won’t the Republican controlled Congress pass these bills?

Why won’t the Republican elected President support these legislations which are America First?

The answer is the Big Four meat processors and their well paid lobbyists roam the halls of congress and get to go to meetings and fundraisers at the White House and YOU don’t!"

DAY 1 RECAP OF THE 2026 CATALYST KITCHENS NORTHEAST REGIONAL SUMMIT

Brooklyn gave us a lot to take home, and this was only from Day 1 of our two-day 2026 Catalyst Kitchens Northeast Regional Summit, hosted by Brownsville Community Culinary Center CCC) and Drive Change. Our first day brought our network together for the kind of learning that happens when you step outside the meeting room and experience the work firsthand. We walked through Brownsville with Daniel Goodine, learning more about the neighborhood’s history, strengths, needs, and the community surrounding BCCC before heading inside its kitchens and program spaces with Alexis “Chef Lex” Aquino and the BCCC team. We heard directly from Alexandria Sumpter-Delves and Kisa Lewis about culinary training, day-to-day operations, growth, and what serving their community really looks like. Our time together also included honest conversations about fundraising, sustainability, and long-term impact, including a panel moderated by Catalyst Kitchens Director of Development Benita Brisco with Chef Lex, Brooklyn Org’s Annie Cleary, and Drive Change’s Kalilah Moon. Looking back on Day 1, the photos are wonderful, but what stays with us most are the conversations, questions, relationships, and willingness to share openly. That is what makes this network powerful. Thank you to our hosts, attendees, partners, and everyone who showed up ready to learn, contribute, and strengthen this work together, and there was still another full day of learning and connection ahead.

US VS. THEM

Traditional procurement asks:

Who can supply this right now?

INDYpendent Bytes asks:

What are you going to need, and how early can we know?

That difference changes everything.

Traditional sourcing waits until demand becomes an order, then searches the existing market for whoever can fill it.

IB takes predictable, recurring demand and moves the signal upstream.

Buyer commitment
➡️ growers see real opportunity
➡️ production is planned around actual need
➡️ multiple growers build capacity
➡️ IB tracks what the region can and cannot supply
➡️ gaps become visible early
➡️ resources and investment can be directed toward those gaps
➡️ supply gets stronger with every cycle.

We are not trying to build another marketplace where growers list what they already produced and hope somebody buys it.

We are building coordination infrastructure that gives small producers enough visibility to produce with purpose.

The goal is not simply to move more local food.

It is to use demand to build the regional capacity required to supply it.
