Spent the last few months watching the AI hype cycle do real damage to the relationship between engineers and the founders who hire them. The hype men at the top need founders to believe coding is solved. The cynical gatekeeper engineers need their peers to believe AI is fake. Both camps are stress responses to the same thing — what I'm calling AI neuroticism.

Wrote a long essay on it: where the actual work is happening, why "Anthropic is solving coding" isn't the dunk on engineers people think it is (it's a dunk on typing), and how to step out of the feedback loop both ends are profiting from.

It's not the singularity that spaghettifies you. It's the tidal forces — the differential rate of change that's tearing engineers and founders apart. Here's how to step out of the hype-vs-trolls feedback loop.

I built my company's internal iPhone app this weekend.

Not for customers. Not to sell. Just for me and my team — running on a server in my own office, tunneled through a VPN, gated by single sign-on and multi-factor
auth.

Shown in the video:
• Record a voice memo on my phone
• Upload over VPN to my own server
• Automatic transcription with word-level playback sync
• SSH into my dev environment and run Claude Code from my phone

I'm not a native app developer. Claude wrote the code I couldn't. I supplied the judgment about what to build and why.

The takeaway for small businesses and solo operators: you don't always need another SaaS subscription. Sometimes you need a weekend, a good AI collaborator, and
a clear idea of the workflow you actually want.

This isn't a product. It's a tool. And that's the whole point.
