A 3/4" A325 bolt costs about $2-3, wholesale. Installing the bolt costs another $20-$50 in the field, once you count crew time at height, lifts, and moving between connections. Inspection adds another $1-2, and that’s before anyone drops one from the deck.

The cheapest, safest bolt is the one you eliminate in design, never carried up a column. That’s why connection decisions belong at the start of a project, not the middle.

What does one field bolt cost on your jobs?

Pick up a copy of Greener Data by Jaymie Scotto & Associates if you haven't yet already! 📖

Here's what it says about us: "On a 208,000-square-foot, 1,700-ton data center project, the fully connected steel model was delivered [by Qnect] in four weeks -- a four-to six-week schedule acceleration despite major design revisions. The integrated approach yielded substantial benefits: 32 tons of steel saved, 43,770 kg of embodied carbon eliminated, 6,830 fewer bolts, 1,786 fewer copes cut, 638 fewer stabilizer plates, and 2,552 linear feet of shop welding removed. Steel er****on was reduced by six days, with only 15 RFIs and zero change orders."

Thank you to Karen Petersburg for being the one to feature Qnect's case study data.

Opening remarks at the Lean Construction Institute Congress, delivered by board chair Katie Wells, who is also VP of Design Management and Operational Excellence at Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC.

Katie has championed making room for mistakes and creating an environment where it is "safe to be wrong." That’s the foundation of continuous improvement. Psychological safety isn’t a soft skill in construction, it’s what makes better planning, better collaboration, and better outcomes possible.

Thank you, Katie, for setting such a meaningful tone.

Last week was New York Climate Week. As we know, "the built environment is the fastest-growing contributor to climate change, accounting for almost 40% of global emissions." That's why innovations such as Early Connected Models are so important - they help the construction industry cut costs, reduce schedule and perhaps most importantly, reduce C02 emissions by up to 10%
