17 years ago today, I wrote this in my journal:

“I wanted to know the nuts and bolts [of web design] and be able to not only customize it but look at it when it’s all said and done and know that I designed it.”

And then I ended with:

“Who knows where it will lead me down the road.”

Turns out, quite a ways. 😊

At the time, web design had nothing to do with my job. Paige and I had bought our own domains and websites, and I simply wanted to learn how to build them myself.

So I started learning.

I kept learning.

And four years later, Touch Point Designs was born.

Now, 17 years after writing that journal entry, I make my living doing the very thing I was teaching myself simply because I wanted to understand how it worked.

Apparently 2009 Cody was onto something. He just didn’t know it yet. 😏💻

What I appreciate most about this review isn’t actually the part about the website. 😊

It’s the last sentence:

“He will be more than just a web designer, he will also be a friend.”

That means a lot to me.

I’ve never wanted Touch Point Designs to feel like a big agency where you submit a ticket and become client #247. I enjoy getting to know the people I work with, learning about their businesses, and hopefully making the whole website process a little easier along the way.

Thanks, E. Kauffman and Elite Metal Supplies. I’m grateful for the kind words and the friendship. 💙

Something you may not know about your web designer…

Apparently, I contain multitudes. 😂

There’s the Local Web Designer you probably know. 💻

But depending on the day, you might also get the faith-centered guy, the Montana trail seeker, the 80s-obsessed music nerd, the guy creating music in his little home studio, or the husband who knows Paige is the real final boss. ❤️

But if we’re selecting a character for Monday morning?

It’s Friday, so let’s settle one of the great annoyances of the internet. 😂

You can permanently delete ONE of these forever:

1️⃣ Pop-ups
2️⃣ Auto-play videos
3️⃣ Cookie banners
4️⃣ “Subscribe to our newsletter!” before you’ve even had time to read the first sentence 😑

Which one are you banishing from the internet?

I’m curious if there’s going to be a runaway winner here. 👇😂

One of my favorite things about living in the Bitterroot Valley is having places like Mill Creek practically in my backyard. 🏔️

I’ve always loved capturing the places around me through photography and video. More recently, I’ve added another creative outlet to the mix: creating my own music.

And now I get to combine the two. 🎵📷

This is “Light Across the River,” set to video I captured while hiking Mill Creek last week.

Web design may be what I do for a living, but apparently I just really like creating things. 😊

If you enjoy this one, you can find more of my music and videos, along with links to where you can stream it, at www.bluehourdrive.com.

💻 Should you put your prices on your website?

A lot of business owners hesitate because:

• Every project is different
• They don’t want competitors seeing their prices
• They’re afraid the price might scare customers away

But here’s the problem: customers are already asking the question.

And when they can’t find an answer, they often don’t call. They just keep looking.

🎥 In this quick website tip, I explain why I think talking about price is less about the actual number and more about building trust.

💻 Something you may not know about your web designer…

I wrote my first computer programs way back in the early 80s, sitting in front of a DOS-era computer.

Which means my relationship with computers started long before websites, smartphones, Wi-Fi… or Google existed. 😂

A lot has changed since then.

Today I’m using those same problem-solving instincts to build websites for small businesses here in the Bitterroot Valley.

The computers got better.

The screens got prettier.

And thankfully, I don’t have to save your website on a floppy disk. 😄

🏔️ Not a bad commute this morning.

I traded the computer screen for a trail and spent some time hiking up Mill Creek.

One of the things I love most about living and working in the Bitterroot Valley is having places like this practically in our backyard.

Websites can wait an hour or two. Sometimes you just need mountains, fresh air, and a good trail. 😊

Pretty grateful this is home.

💡 Wednesday Web Tip: Before you trust that email, check who actually sent it.

I’ve been seeing emails that look like they’re from website hosting companies, but a quick look at the sender’s actual email address tells a very different story. 🚩

In today’s quick video, I’ll show you one simple way to spot the fake before you click anything.

When in doubt? Don’t click. Just delete it. 👍🏻
