Public Safety - Important Changes !!!
Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and US Cellular have all gotten suddenly very serious about anti-spam monitoring, rate of delivery and volume limits on their public Email-to-SMS system.
While in the past we've recommended that public safety not use the public gateways but its important to note that the public Email-to-SMS system. It is no longer a viable method of delivery; reliability and timeliness cannot be guaranteed and there is a high likelihood the dispatch center will eventually become blacklisted from using it due to carrier restrictions.
Public safety related services NEED to register on Verizon's EMAG and AT&T's Firstnet systems.
All public safety get free access to the EMAG platform to send SMS to Verizon subscribers but they charge a monthly fee for inter-carrier support.
AT&T provides public safety use of their Firstnet system and clients will need to register using https://www.firstnet.com/signup/ or by contacting any Firstnet representative available to your organization. That site allows you to verify your eligibility and begin the registration process for access to that enterprise platform.
It is important to note that Firstnet accounts must be given access to the Firstnet Messaging portal and you'll need to tell your Firstnet account manager you need that access.
