This overview covers TLS fundamentals, its security features, and the key differences between TLS 1.2 and 1.3, emphasizing best practices. It explains Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) and its impact on decryption, alongside an in-depth look at the TLS 1.3 handshake and why in-line access is required for decryption. Various decryption methods are explored, including known server keys and certificate re-signing, as well as how decrypted traffic is processed by passive and in-line security tools. Examples demonstrate how multiple tools receive decrypted traffic, the risks of in-line decryption, and mitigation strategies like bypass taps. The session concludes with a summary and an invitation to a deep-dive webinar.
