Moon: Stealing the Sun’s spotlight for a sec..

On April 8, the total solar eclipse will pass over Mexico, the United States, and Canada, and will have a longer time in totality than the 2017 eclipse, lasting up to 4 minutes and 28 seconds. The path of totality will be a much wider path than the 2017 eclipse, and there won’t be another total eclipse in the U.S. until 2045. You don’t want to miss it.

Don’t let the eclipse be the last thing you see… eye safety is key! Have your eclipse glasses, a safe handheld viewer or a pinhole projector close by to view the partial phases before and after totality.

In 2022, the Earth has traveled 940 million km (584 million mi) completing a 365.256 Gregorian calendar days (1 sidereal year) orbit of the Sun at an average distance of 149.60 million km (92.96 million mi) at an average speed of 29.78 km/s (107,208 km/h; 66,616 mph). That distance traveled could circumnavigate the Earth 23 times. And this is at 4.54 ± 0.05 billion years old.
