The Citizen's Advocate is a weekly newspaper located in Henning, Minnesota. We are published each Monday afternoon and serve the communities of Henning, Ottertail, Vining and Deer Creek. In addition to the newspaper, the Citizen's Advocate can do a variety of custom printing including: business cards, envelopes, invitations, signs, brochures and much more. Current owners Chad and Danielle Koenen took over the Citizen's Advocate in September 2010.

The Henning Hornets wrapped up their tremendous run through the state basketball tournament with a 79-67 win over Red Lake County on Saturday morning on the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul to finish in third place. Henning senior Kale Misegades led the charge with 41 points while junior Zack Wiederich scored 17 points.

Trailing 59-56 with under one minute left Henning freshman Easton Misegades hit his third 3-pointer of the second half to tie the game and set up a dramatic end to Fridays Class A state semifinals game between the top seeded Henning Hornets and fifth seeded Hills-Beaver Creek at Williams Arena. Hills-Beaver Creek would score a layup on their subsequent possession giving the Hornets the ball down 61-59 with 8.5 seconds left in the game. Kale Misegades then took the ball the length of the court to tie the game at 61-61 as time expired to set up overtime. Unfortunately, Henning’s quest for a state championship and undefeated season came to an end as they were outscored 10-6 in overtime to fall 71-67.
The Hornets will now play in the Class A third place game on Saturday against Red Lake County at Concordia University in St. Paul. The game is scheduled to tip off at 10 am. Henning is currently 31-1 on the season.

The top seeded Henning Hornets improved to 31-0 with a 61-45 win over eighth seeded Upsala in the opening round of the Class A state basketball tournament on Thursday morning.
The Hornets were led offensively by Kale Misegades who recorded a double-double with 35 points and 16 rebounds as well as Todd Bjerke who scored 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
With the win the Hornets have advanced to the state semifinals against the winner of fourth seeded Southland (28-1 overall) and fifth seeded Hills-Beaver Creek (27-3 overall) on Friday at 12 p.m. at Williams Arena.

The Henning Hornets, who are 30-0 overall and ranked first in the state, received the top overall seed in Class A and will take on the eighth seeded Upsala Cardinals in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday, March 26 at Target Center. Tip off of Henning’s opening round game will be at 11 a.m.
The Cardinals advanced to state after defeating the Nevis Tigers in the Section 5A tournament last week. Upsala is currently 24-6 overall and ranked 24th in the QRF. They come into the state tournament averaging 69.7 points per game on offense, while giving up 54 points per game on defense.
Henning defeated Park Christian by a score of 72-61 in the Section 6A final last Friday night to repeat as the Section 6A champions. The Hornets come into the tournament averaging 79.9 points per game on offense, while giving up 50 points per game on defense, both are among the best in Class A. They are also ranked third in the QRF standings.
The winner of Henning and Upsala will take on the winner of fifth seeded Hills-Beaver Creek (27-3 overall) and fourth seeded Southland (28-1 overall) on Friday, March 27 at 12 p.m. at Williams Arena.
The two teams who lose in the quarterfinals will face one another on March 27 at 10 a.m. at Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University.
On the other side of the bracket, second seeded Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton will face seventh seeded Cherry and third seeded Red Lake County will take on sixth seeded Liberty Classical Academy.

The top ranked and undefeated Henning Hornets defended their Section 6A championship and will make a return to the state tournament after defeating third seeded Park Christian 72-61 at Concordia College in Moorhead on Friday night. With the win the Hornets improved to a perfect 30-0 and will compete in the Class A state basketball tournament beginning Thursday, March 26 at Target Center.

There was a sea of black in the stands in Perham on Wednesday night as the top seeded and top ranked Henning Hornets defeated the Breckenridge Cowboys by a score of 80-57 to advance to their second straight Section 6A championship game against the winner of fifth ranked Pelican Rapids and Park Christian on Friday night at Concordia College in Moorhead. A tight game throughout first first half, Henning was able to control the game throughout the second half to come away with the win. The section championship game will tip off at 6 p.m. Henning is currently 29-0 on the season.
