Yes they are kids, and yes they need to learn.
But, they are humans who deserve respect and teachers who do not belittle them, control them, or make them feel stupid because we expected it to be common sense. They do not get away with everything! I just give them a chance to try again, with a full understanding of my expectations.

Discipline doesn’t come in 1 shape and size. It took 16 years of raising kids before I realized that it is 100% okay not to do things just because that’s the way things were when I was little. It’s not the same@world I grew up in and I can’t have the same expectations, rules, or methods of parenting.

It has never ceased to amaze me how opinionated everyone is on choices that have nothing to do with them. I am nothing but honest, and that makes a lot of people uncomfortable. I have left churches, ended friendships, and cut family members out of my life for being condescending, judgmental, and unwilling to respect my boundaries. I found that I was explaining myself all of the time, because I needed everyone to understand my reason. I followed bad advice, I missed opportunities, and I lived in a state of constant anxiety that I was doing something wrong. These are 10 of the choices I have made that came with a mountain of opinions, judgement, and condescension, but I still held my ground on.

I was always taught to treat others the way I want to be treated. I have remained open minded about almost everything, and make big efforts not to let anyone feel negatively about something I have done or said. That was never a courtesy given to me.

I have been to Golf Galaxy more than a few times to say the least! My husband had a grip switched and we picked it up last week … after I was 10mg deep in a gummy! The sticker shock and idea that a store this big only sells 1 sport, blew my mind!

I have been in Golf Galaxy a few times, but I’ve never really looked at anything. I had no idea that it cost so much to golf… not including the price for their tee time or travel!

I no longer feel bad for doing nice things for myself! If he gets to golf once a month, Momma can have a massage once a month!

I have never bought something so fast in my life! This is my favorite Target collab I have ever seen. dELiA*s I think I developed critical thinking skills from the OG catalogs! “Why do we drive on a parkway, and park on a driveway?” This is the best nostalgia ever… all that’s left is to order 12 CDs for $.99 from (which apparently officially shut down last month).

Happy marriages are a direct result of 2 people putting in the work every day and choosing forgiveness, grace, compassion, & humility.

T - Touch
Sit together on the sofa, in the bed, or dare I say the same side of the booth?! Touch = intimacy. It says that this isn’t an attack. It says I love you.

Education - You should be learning about each other every day! So, what have you learned about each other most recently?

A - Appreciation
Use your words! Verbalize everything that you appreciate out of your spouse. Don’t focus on physical attributes and do not say the same thing every time.

M - Metrics
It’s the fancy way of saying Complaints! What is bothering you? What has hurt you? What do you need to talk about? Listen with an open mind and open heart. Don’t get defensive. There is nothing wrong with apologizing when you mess up, but there is a big issue with denial. Take accountability, and hear them out.

Do it daily at first, then weekly, then monthly.
I promise your feelings for each other will improve in 48 hours!
