Friday fact:

Macs don't back up to iCloud. Most people are under the impression that they do, but this is not the case! Your Mac will sync and store data from iCloud, but they can't actually backup there.

To backup your Mac, you still need to use the built-in Time Machine feature with an external disk. Backing your Mac up with Time Machine will ensure all of your computer's data is safe and easily recoverable should your device fail or you need to move into a new one.

Meet the MACnician!

Hello, my name is Brian Sugarman, and I am the owner of MACnician, your local expert Mac repair shop. Since a young age, I was always interested in technology. In middle school, I became fascinated by Apple computers and just wanted to know more about them. I took a computer repair class in high school and landed my first internship at an Apple repair shop at 16. Since then, I knew that one day I wanted to open my own store servicing Apple products. After several years of working in other private repair shops and Apple’s Genius Bar, I was finally able to open MACnician in my hometown of Highland Park.

Since 2011, MACnician has been servicing the North Shore for anything and everything Apple. We offer Mac repairs, data transfers, new computer setup, malware removal, device purchasing assistance, on-site service, analog to digital media conversion and more. We can also help with problems on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. The store is open weekdays from 9-5. You do not need an appointment to get expert help. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Did you know MACnician offers free computers to community members in need? These Macs come from our customer donations and recycles. We fix them up and get them to families who need them. These older Macs are still good for basic browsing, homework, Google Docs, etc.

If you know someone who could use one of our free Macs, send them our way! Donations can be dropped off weekdays from 9-5 at our store.
