Gratitude and grief are not opposites. You can love your family and still grieve the closeness you expected. New article.

Nobody hands you a manual for the grief of motherhood not turning out the way you pictured. We prepare for labor, for sleepless nights, for tantrums and teenage years. Nobody prepares us for the ache of realizing, decades in, that the closeness we assumed we’d have by now simply isn’t there. Ima...

Hi everyone — I want to ask something a little more pointed than usual this week.
We've spent the last few weeks talking about letting go of what was never ours to carry, and then sitting with the strange quiet that follows. This week I want to push one step further: it's time to actually live your own life. Not someday. Now.
And the thing that makes that possible — the thing I want to be honest with you about — is boundaries. Not the defensive, crisis-mode kind. The structural kind. A fence, not a wall.
If you built a fence around the ground that's actually yours — your time, your creative work, your rest, your unfinished dreams — what would be growing inside it right now?
I'll be honest: for most of my life, the answer would have been nothing, because I never fenced off any ground to begin with. I'm curious what your answer is.
No wrong answers here. I'll be reading every single one. 🤍
You can read my article about this from this week HERE:

After the grief work and the identity questions, there's one more step: actually living the life that's yours. Here's how boundaries make that possible — not as a wall, but as a fence around the garden you're planting.

Nobody warns women about this part.
Not really.
People talk about sleepless nights when children are little. They talk about the chaos, the carpools, the laundry piles, the slammed doors, the noise.
But almost nobody talks about the silence that comes later.
The strange ache of walking through a house that no longer needs you in the same way.
The emotional whiplash of spending decades being the center of everyone’s survival… and then suddenly becoming optional in rooms you once held together.
Some women are not simply lonely because their children grew up.
They are lonely because motherhood consumed so much of their identity that they no longer know where they begin outside of caregiving.
And that grief is real.
You can love your adult children deeply and still mourn the version of life that disappeared.
You can be grateful and grieving at the same time.
That does not make you selfish.
It makes you human.
This season asks hard questions:
Who am I now?
What do I want now?
What parts of me got buried under survival?
The women I talk to are not weak.
They are exhausted from carrying emotional weight for decades without anyone noticing how heavy it became.
But hear me clearly:
Your life did not end because motherhood changed shape.
You are still allowed to become someone new.
If this season feels painfully lonely, start here:
Stop treating your own needs like an inconvenience.
And if your soul feels bone-tired from carrying everyone else for years, I created Prayers for Bone-Weary Moms for women exactly in this season. Gentle encouragement. Honest faith. Emotional steadiness for mothers who are running low.
You are not too late.
And you are not disappearing.

You may think you’re just tired, but often, it's emotional drainage from years of constant giving without proper restoration. 🤯

Many mothers hold everything together, sacrificing their well-being for others while ignoring their own needs. Unresolved conversations and unspoken disappointments can weigh heavily on your heart, leaving you feeling empty.

It's crucial to recognize that not everything demands your attention. Prioritizing your peace and self-care is essential. 🌼

Mothers often carry the weight of self-blame when their adult children pull away. This instinctive reaction stems from the ingrained belief that they are responsible for their children's happiness and emotional well-being.

Understanding this emotional struggle is crucial for healing. It's important to recognize that distance doesn’t diminish the love shared. 🌷 Seeking support and open communication can help moms navigate these feelings and foster healthier relationships.

Remember, as a mother, you are not alone in this journey.
