That unexpected IT bill may have been dropping hints for months.

Maybe support calls for the same equipment are becoming more frequent. Maybe your headcount has increased, more employees need access to paid applications or several contracts are approaching renewal around the same time.

Spotting these signs early gives you time to account for the cost before it becomes urgent. That means an equipment replacement or software renewal is less likely to cut into money you had set aside for something else.

A quick win for this week
Here's something you can do in the next 10 minutes that will meaningfully improve your business's security:

Go check when your computers last ran Windows (or Mac) updates.

Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates. That's it.

Updates patch security holes that hackers actively exploit. Keeping them current is one of the single most effective things you can do — and most businesses are behind.

While you're at it, check your router too. Most have a small web interface where you can see if firmware updates are available.

Simple stuff. Big impact.

And if you'd rather just have someone handle all of this automatically so you never have to think about it — that's what I'm here for. 😊

It’s hard to stay on cloud nine when the bill arrives. ☁️

The more your business grows, the faster those costs can add up. Every new employee, application and gigabyte of data comes with a price tag.

That’s why it pays to check what you’re using, what you’re paying for and what you’re likely to need next. A regular review can help keep cloud spending from drifting higher than expected.

Have your cloud costs ever brought you back down to earth? Tell us in the comments.

The Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP) ensures that only the right people have the keys to your systems.

By restricting unnecessary access, you can:

• Minimize entry points for cybercriminals
• Reduce the risk of insider threats
• Stay compliant with regulations and avoid costly fines

Would you leave your house keys under the doormat for anyone to find? That’s the risk of excessive user privileges—leaving the door wide open for security threats.

So why give every employee unrestricted access to your systems?

The Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP) ensures users have access to only what’s needed, nothing more.

What I wish every small business owner knew

After years of working with small businesses, here are the things I find myself saying over and over:

1. You don't need to spend a lot to be secure. You need to spend wisely.

2. "We've never had a problem" is not a security strategy.

3. Backups that haven't been tested aren't really backups.

4. Technology should make your life easier. If it's not, something needs to change.

5. You deserve to understand what you're paying for and why.

I got into this work because I genuinely like helping people. There's no jargon here, no condescension — just someone who wants your business to run smoothly.

If any of these hit close to home, let's talk.

Cybercriminals don't need your password.

They just need you to click before you think.

The best defense against phishing isn't a tool. It's a pause.
