There are two ways to own a piece of safety equipment.
One is the kind you have to keep checking. Somebody drives out, opens the enclosure, tests the batteries, and hopes the answer is the same as last time.
The other is the kind you stop thinking about.
The difference is usually a decision nobody outside engineering ever hears about.
The batteries in our solar towers are sealed gel.
They are low maintenance, they tolerate deep discharge and recovery, and they hold up against temperature extremes and vibration.
The electrolyte inside has a putty-like consistency, so it will not spill acid. And unlike lithium-ion, it does not combust on contact with water v***r, which matters when the equipment is standing on a beach, next to a pool deck, or out in Great Lakes weather.
Small engineering decisions like that one are why a tower installed today is still answering in year seven.
