Can you recover data from a dead or dropped hard drive?
Yes β most "dead" hard drives still have fully recoverable data, even after a drop, water damage, or a failed boot. The drive doesn't have to spin to recover the files; specialized tools read directly from the platters or NAND chips in a controlled environment. The single biggest mistake people make is plugging the drive back in over and over hoping it'll work β every retry can permanently destroy more sectors.
If your drive is clicking, beeping, not detected, or the laptop won't boot past the manufacturer logo β stop using it and bring it in. The longer it sits powered on in a failing state, the more data you lose.
