AcenTek provides Voice, Video and Internet services in 20 communities in southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa and 14 communities in Michigan. The company was formed after World War II at a time when telephone service in rural, southeastern Minnesota was inadequate. Most of the telephone lines in operation were owned and operated by groups of farmers, and it was not unusual to find party li

nes with as many as 30 customers on a line. So a group of farmers representing many telephone companies met in 1949 to discuss improving rural telephone service using REA loans. Their meeting led to the formation of the Fillmore County Telephone Cooperative in 1950, as a cooperative corporation for the purpose of bringing telephone service to rural southeastern Minnesota. Acquisitions started in July 1951 when the company purchased the Ostrander Telephone Company, with that company’s 104 subscribers. From that time to 1986, the company grew as it acquired many other small telephone companies. AcenTek now has over 13,000 access lines in the Minnesota and Iowa exchanges. Adding the Michigan subsidiaries, the total is over 21,000. Employment has grown to 135 employees–93 in Minnesota and Iowa; 20 in Mesick, Michigan; and 22 in Allendale, Michigan. Along the way, (in 1956) the Fillmore County Telephone Cooperative changed its name to Ace Telephone Association. In 1999, to better reflect the full range of communications services offered, Ace Telephone Association began doing business as Ace Communications Group. Ace Communications Group has evolved into being more than just a telephone/communications company. So in April of 2014 Ace Telephone Association, along with its subsidiaries began doing business as AcenTek, Ascending Technology.

Did you know that even small projects like planting shrubs or installing a new mailbox require you to call 8-1-1 before you start? Getting utilities such as gas, electric, phone, cable, water and sewer marked is very important to avoid costly repairs to these utilities. Calling in advance and getting your utilities marked will help you dig safely. With all your outdoor projects this spring, call 8-1-1 before you dig.

🥛June is Dairy Month and to celebrate we are shining the spotlight on customers, Greg and Jenny of Conway Farms. Recently, we had a chance to visit their 5-generation farm, located in rural Lansing, IA. Jenny and Greg both grew up on farms and later, both attended college with a focus on herd management. Their love of farming grew with them and that was obvious as they gave us the tour.

🐄It didn’t take long to notice the caring relationship they have with their herd of 180. As we visited, we noticed Greg’s 87-year-old father happily working on the tractor in the background. With that genuine care for their cows, and love of farming, the Conways don’t seem to mind the hard work they put in day after day, year after year. “Choose a job you love, and you never work a day in your life,” Greg said, with a smile on his face.

🚜The Conways run their farm with a mindset of ongoing improvement. Greg and Jenny continually look for how to make things better for their herd and for their workers. Last year they put up a new hoop barn improving the quality of life for the cows and their staff by offering protection from the elements. They also were awarded a grant for a milk taxi. This specialized cart helps to mix and transport milk or milk replacer instead of having to carry heavy buckets to their calves. Brandon, Greg and Jenny’s son, showed us how the milk taxi works and explained how this addition to the farm has made his job easier.

💻Technology is an important part of making this farm efficient. Their cows have collars or tags monitoring their health. These refer information back to the office. The info is used to make decisions on everything from feeding to breading. Cameras are also an important tool at Conway Farms. Placed throughout the farm, the cameras eliminate some of the in-person visits to check cows. Providing continuous information, the cameras are a tool that allows the Conways to react immediately if a problem arises.

⭐Conway Farms is one of the many dairy farms that deserve recognition this month for providing the dairy products we enjoy. Started by farmers, our company has great respect for the essential work all farmers do. Special thanks to Greg and Jenny Conway, for trusting AcenTek to be their provider of Internet and Voice. 🎉Congratulations to Dean Kerrigan as he heads out of the office to begin his retirement. After 28 years of being part of our sales team, Dean will begin a new chapter. Known for his easy-going attitude and friendly disposition, Dean filled the role of sales consultant perfectly. The way he empathizes with the customer, sees things from their perspective, and finds a solution that makes sense for them, both functionally and financially, is what makes him incredible at his job. He creates a level of trust with our customers that is uncommon in the industry today. Dean is a key contributor to our high customer retention rate, and we are so grateful to have had him on our team for so many years. ‼️𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: The drive-through at AcenTek will be closed the week of May 26th, due to repair and sealcoating of the drive-through and parking lot. Feel free to stop by our lobby, if needed. Simply park in front of our building and use the sidewalk entrance to access the lobby door. We estimate the closure to last the remainder of the week. Cones and orange tape will be removed once the project is complete. Thank you for your understanding.
