There's always a first time. First time i ever took a part hygain rotator with wire nuts on the wires.

Just thinking out loud. I've had some question's about various antenna rotator's that are being tested on the bench and they turn just fine. Once the rotator was installed and in operation, they will not rotate. It could be a tie-up inside a thrust bearing or the motor inside the rotator doesn't have the torque required to spin the complete unit.
I'm thinking about a way to mount the rotator on a plate with a pipe welded to the plate aprox one foot from the center point of the rotator and taking another pipe with a old 1/2 drive socket and welding onto this pipe to attach a beam style torque wrench to.
Mount the rotator on the plate, install the pipe inside the mast clamp and tighten the clamp's, Rotate the rotator until the beam style torque wrench bottom's out on the pipe welded to the base and see how much torque is red on the torque wrench.
While i have never seen a torque turning speck on any Hygain rotator, I have seen some for the Yaesu G-800/ G-1000 modals and it is listed at 44 to 80 Ft-lbs. As well as 57 to 180 Ft-lbs for the G-2800, I would suspect that i would have to test many other rotator's to get a aprox setting, Once it is recorded, then i could use this to test with.
I have also seen a Breaking torque spec for the same Yaesu rotator's at 290 Ft-lbs for the G-800, 435 Ft-lbs for the G-1000 and 1,800 Ft-lbs for the G-2800. This may also be a test on the breaking action for these Yaesu rotator's that can be tested with the same setup by just attaching the torque wrench and seeing what torque the rotator start's to spin.

Here is my original Mori MX-1000 rotator and a NOS Mori MX-1000 rotator i traded a Yaesu G-1000 rotator combo set up with David Wheat out of MS.
David found out that this Mori rotator was too big to fit in his tower, and he already had a Yaesu G-1000 rotator combo in use. So we traded straight across.
I met David in Memphis, TN on my way back from the Sparta, TN break and traded.
With this NOS Mori-MX1000 rotator combo, i was able to figure out the wiring to the 8 pin connector at the rotator, The connector was inside the box the rotator was shipped in.
My aftermarket 8 pin connecter was labeled different than the oem connector that was inside the box, Plus the aftermarket 8 pin connector and slightly smaller pin's than than the oem socket.
With obtaining this Mori MX-1000 Rotator combo set up i was able to also repair and test my original rotator.

Here is a Yaesu G-1000SDX rotator combo setup i'm going to trade to David Wheat out of MS for his Mori MX-1000 Rotator setup.
David's Mori rotator will not fit inside his Rohn 25 tower so we are going to do a even trade. I am going to meet David in Memphis, TN when i'm done at the Sparta, TN break.
