Good pre-storm morning everyone! So icy cold weather is on the way, are you ready for it, technologywise? Here are a few tips for you to use to prepare and weather out the storm.
1. Make sure your computers are backed up before the storm.
2. All electronic devices should be plugged into an uninterruptible power source (UPS) so if the power goes out, the UPS will give you time to correctly power off your computer. It’s a battery power back up surge protector.
3. Have a portable power supply for your handheld devices or Juice-boxes we call them. And make sure they are charged BEFORE the power goes out.
4. Never use your technology while charging on juice-boxes. It will result in no charge on your device and could overhear your device causing long term damage.
5. Use your technology during the storm sparingly since we don’t really know how long of if the power will go off for any amount of time.
6. Make sure you have important phone numbers written down so if you do lose your electronics power, you may be able to “borrow” someone else’s phone to make an emergency call to one of your written down numbers. It will keep you connected temporarily at least.
7. If you do have any problems during this icy time, don’t worry, come see us at Tech-ER and we will get you back up and running, technologywise. Check our FB page for possible closings during this icy storm.
8. Lastly, use the cellphone towers lightly. During storms like this, first responders and essential workers will need to rely on cell service more in order to stay connected to their jobs.
Granted the storm may not last very long but it will cause many to be inconvenienced. Take a breath and a break from technology and relax. It will be ok. Stay warm, stay dry. See you soon at Tech-ER!
