Just received a call supposedly from national grid, telling me a technician was on route to disconnect my service due to non payment. I know my bill is paid, he said it was for a security deposit on the meter. He wanted me to go to Walmart to make a payment, as that was the only way it would be posted quickly enough to avoid the disconnect. I hung up and called the main national grid number and was assured there is no problem with the account. Another SCAM. Please beware.

Watch out for spear-phishing.
Lots of companies getting emails that look like they are from the top dog of the company, addresses to the bookkeeping people.
The email only asks if they have time to do something, nothing else. If they get a response to the initial email, a follow up email is sent with a request for a wire transfer to be initiated.

Because the email appears to be coming from a person in the organization who would have the authority to initiate such a request, and it is address to someone who can complete the request it is highly targeted.

When I am notified of the emails, I usually have the client respond so that the request for the wire transfer will be sent. With the request for wire transfer, I can then contact the financial institution and report the attempted wire fraud.

Never send money from an email request even from the boss without verbal confirmation that they actually made the request.

Many people are receiving an email with a password that they have used in the past. The email claims you have been to a printer site and that they have video of you as you were on the p**n site.

This is caused by Web sites that were hacked, many of them years ago.

If you are still using the password on the email, change it immediately.

Delete the email, DO NOT pay the requested ransom!!!!!

New twist on computer scams, yesterday one of my clients was on Facebook when she got a pop up telling her that she had a problem with her pc am to call Microsoft at such and such number- this scam has been around for a long time and often they will just call you out of the blue instead of waiting for you to come across the pop up.

She panicked and called the number.

The. Ew twist is that they didn't want a credit card number. They demanded a check, to be picked up by fed-ex. A guy in an enterprise rental van with a magnet on the door that said fed-ex showed up at her house.

By that time though, I had already helped her file a complaint with the ftc and contacted the local police.

Windows 10 is out- but do you want to upgrade right away?
If all of your software is fairly new, and your not too worried about your printer working right away- then yes- you may want to upgrade right away.

There are still some glitches with windows 10- and some people are having activation issues. Some printers may not have windows 10 drivers available yet.

The upgrade will remain FREE until July 2016- so there's no rush.
