If each bee was the size of a person, one hive would have enough people to fill up an entire football stadium. That is a lot of little pollinators working hard to protect our food supply, so we work hard to protect them.

How do you know if Verifili is accurate? It’s a fair question. It’s probably the most common one we get asked (as it should be). Simply put, data collection — six years of it to be exact. Let’s take a look at what goes into building the Verifli hive strength model, and how our methods progressed over time.

Q: How do beekeepers benefit from growers grading their hives using Verifli?

A: Verifli uses infrared image analysis to measure colony size. Verifli is non-invasive, so your hives won’t be opened and your bees will remain undisturbed. Growers receive Verifli results within 48 hours to react quickly to any hive strength issues before bloom begins. Growers are anxious about pollination because it’s out of their control. They rely on beekeepers to deliver strong bees and the beekeepers rely on the weather to cooperate. When growers use Verifli, it is to protect their crop — not to expose beekeepers.

It’s been a while since we have introduced ourselves so let’s meet the team — Ellie Symes, our CEO and Co-Founder graduated with her M.P.A. in Information Systems and a B.S. in Environmental Management from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She started and was founder and the president of the beekeeping club at IU, which is where she discovered her passion for bees and hive grading. You may have heard of Verifli, but do you know its true potential to impact your pollination? Verifli is a hive grading system that measures colony size and pollination value by analyzing thermal data contained in an infrared (IR) image. That’s a lot, we know. This is why Verifli converts these images into hive strength data accounting for weather conditions at the time and location of each image. It does all the hard work so you don’t have to. We have grown extensively since our start in 2016, but we are committed to staying true to our original mission — to develop technology to help beekeepers maximize pollination revenue per hive and help growers reduce cost and optimize pollination quality.
